Developed the energy & carbon reduction strategy globally for AstraZeneca including Medimmune. Delivered a reduction in carbon emissions of 20% in just three years – two years ahead of target. Reductions in emissions from travel and transport (car fleet, air travel and freight & logistics) were also achieved. An ambitious sustainability plan for a major $500m capital project was developed and approved.

About Richard Sturman

Richard is passionate about improving environmental sustainability. He uses his business strategy experience to ensure that sustainability objectives are clear and understood at a senior level. He developed the energy strategy for AstraZeneca’s global business balancing the need to reduce energy costs, reduce CO2 emissions and improve security of supply. He has also devised the sustainability strategy for a new $500m site. Richard steered AstraZeneca to a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions in 3 years, together with an 18% reduction in energy usage. He has experience of energy procurement, renewable power purchase agreements and led the development of a 23MW CHP plant.
