Key Responsibilities:

As the Associate Director of Public Affairs, you will be the driving force behind ICVCM's public affairs strategy, working closely with ICVCM colleagues, subject matter experts, partners and other key stakeholders. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Global Stakeholder Liaison: You will serve as a primary liaison for stakeholders worldwide, engaging with governments, regulators, international NGOs, philanthropies, and UN organizations to advance our mission.

  • Strategy Development: Develop a long-term public affairs strategy and provide guidance to ICVCM's leadership on engaging with governments, regulators, and international agencies to drive our objectives.

  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain relationships with industry participants and external organizations, closely monitoring legislative and policy developments.

  • Efficient Stakeholder Management: Manage stakeholders, agencies, and colleagues across partner organizations, ensuring the maintenance of high standards in public affairs and communication programs.

  • Collaborative Efforts: Work with the Communications and Executive Secretariat teams to produce research, briefings, and thought leadership pieces that contribute to our mission.

  • Global Impact: Assist in shaping the global environment to support the Core Carbon Principles, providing insights and guidance to support ICVCM's organizational goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Proactive Response: Anticipate, identify, monitor, and assess the significance of external developments and formulate effective responses in coordination with the organization.

Essential Experience:

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Extensive International Experience: Government or corporate affairs experience with exceptional media and communication skills.

  • Carbon Market Knowledge: Exposure to and knowledge of carbon markets (voluntary and/or compliance) and international and/or national climate policy.

  • Partnership Proficiency: Proven ability in partnership development and management.

  • Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated experience managing a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Strategic Leadership: Experience in strategy and policy development and overseeing major international campaigns.

  • Team Leadership: Ability to lead and contribute to high-performing teams.

Desirable Experience:

You'll stand out if you have:

  • Startup Acumen: Experience in a start-up environment and small teams.

  • Government Insight: Advisory role in a ministerial, departmental, or regulatory context.

  • International Project Collaboration: Experience in international, multi-agency project teams.

  • Financial and Carbon Market Background: A background in and understanding of financial and carbon markets.

Skills, Abilities & Attributes:

Your success in this role will be driven by your:

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (essential) and proficiency in other languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Bahasa, Mandarin, and/or Arabic - desirable).

  • Global Ambassador: Willingness and availability to travel and represent ICVCM at meetings and events worldwide, including as a presenter and speaker.

  • Industry Experience: 10-15 years' experience in government or in-house public or government affairs, with a legal and financial industry background being a key asset.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship management.

  • Carbon Market Knowledge: Deep understanding of the voluntary carbon market.
