Plastic Oceans UK (PO) have been experts on plastic pollution for over a decade, starting with their award-winning documentary A Plastic Ocean, which has been named by Sir David Attenborough as "one of the most important films of our time" and has ignited mass public awareness.

Now is the time to solve the crisis and change practices as a society. PO innovative tools and programmes empower multiple audiences to transform their relationship with plastics and the ocean, committing to long-lasting change. PO is undertaking an exciting strategic transition and are working in partnership with Acre to hire a Chief Executive who can both shape and lead their strategy alongside a talented and passionate team.

As part of this strategic transition, the Plastic Oceans UK identity is evolving to build on and go beyond its long-term legacy within the ocean plastic space - using the momentum around plastic pollution as a gateway to tackling wider ocean issues. This will be bolstered by a new, fresh brand and name that will lend itself well to the strong movement around building, campaigning and behaviour change programmes that are yet to be implemented.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and supporting a growing team to be highly productive in their roles, as well as ensuring that Plastic Oceans UK has a strong focus on wellbeing and team development

  • Facilitating effective decision making in ongoing strategic activities of each department to ensure they are consistent with the overall strategy and mission

  • Building strong networking and financial support across the organisation, through facilitating the development of new opportunities with a wide range of relevant and influential stakeholders in the space

  • Alongside the Founder and other team members, acting as a public face and spokesperson for the organisation

  • Working with the Board and Founder to ensure that the organisation's non-executive bench is highly capable and well-suited to the needs and values of the organisation

Your Background:

  • Effective decision making and facilitation in highly dynamic situations

  • Previous experience or a strong understanding of charity governance models

  • Ability to think outside the box, challenge ideas constructively and assess risks of bold organisational decisions

  • A developed understanding of modern marketing and brand building techniques and how they can be applied to drive change and build the organisation's profile

You'll also have a proven track record of operational responsibility, ideally within a small but rapidly growing organisation including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss, legal compliance and human resources paired with an ability to support the shifting global working dynamic.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an international movement for transformation, which is rooted in environmental sustainability and social justice.

Plastic Oceans UK are committed to affecting behaviour change not only at individual, but also at organisational, community and societal level - both globally and locally. If you are a passionate and intuitive leader, looking to make your mark in a dynamic organisational development role with real social purpose and capacity for growth, this is a great opportunity to make that a reality.
