Acre is engaged on a retained basis to recruit a Corporate Governance / ESG Manager for the London office (or possibly Frankfurt or Stockholm) of a leading private equity firm. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our client's long-term Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) programme; to further integrate Corporate Governance and ESG factors into their portfolio companies and at fund level.

This appointment will build on our client's commitment to being a responsible investor by supporting strategy and policies that both protect and create value.

Our client invests in a range of industry sectors including consumer, industrial and business services ranging in size and complexity with a global customer base and supply chains. Their clients are international top tier institutional investors including private and public pension funds.

Responsibilities:

As part of working closely with investment colleagues and portfolio companies:

  • Provide corporate governance analysis in the screening process for potential investments

  • Perform corporate governance analysis to ensure that existing assets are effectively managed in terms of corporate governance risks and opportunities, and are compliant with corporate and local standards and policies

  • Provide training to further the integration of corporate governance considerations in investment thinking and processes.

  • Influencing top executives and senior managers of portfolio companies to support the improvement of ESG performance and risk management

  • Engaging with ESG sponsors from the portfolio companies in order to contribute to best practice implementation

  • Enhance reporting and monitoring system for corporate governance activity

  • Support external communication to investors and stakeholders on material developments in the firm's ESG performance

  • Contributing to the ESG strategy at all stages of the investment process - pre-investment diligence, acquisition, monitoring/ownership and exit sale.

Desired Experience:

  • Corporate governance experience gained in a buy-side investment firm, the consulting sector or within large international businesses

  • Corporate governance analysis experience including board effectiveness (related to the ESG agenda), board independence and adherence to general corporate governance best practice

  • Experience of dealing with social matters such as health & safety, employee wellbeing or supply chain would be beneficial

  • Corporate governance experience applied to the industrial, business services, consumer or healthcare sectors.

Competencies Sought:

  • Strong communication and relationship building skills

  • The ability to influence a range of stakeholders at various levels of seniority

  • Creative thinking for improving ESG practices and affecting change

Fluency in English is essential, proficiency in German or Swedish is advantageous.
