Are you an experienced agricultural sustainability expert, with the ambition to make a lasting impact with one of the world's largest food and beverage ingredients businesses?

Olam is a leading agri-business operating in over 60 countries, supplying food, food ingredients and packaged foods, and industrial raw materials such as cotton and timber to more than 20,000 customers worldwide.

Olam Food Ingredients (OFI) is an operating group of Olam businesses and has a presence in areas including dairy, cocoa, coffee, cashew and other edible nuts and spices. OFI is on a pathway to listing as an autonomous, leading Food and Food Ingredients business in 2022. OFI is a pioneer and recognised leader in climate-smart and environmentally sustainable food production. At a Group level, Olam has set ambitious Science Based Targets to drive a reversal in GHG emissions growth through climate smart, biodiversity friendly agriculture and supply chains.

The dairy industry has lagged behind other food commodities in the past, so, in 2021 OFI published its first global Milk Products sustainability strategy, Milk Matters, setting out the company's priorities in Climate Action & Healthy Ecosystems, Animal Welfare, and Social Impact and the company's ambitious 2030 goals. The company is now seeking a Sustainability Lead to drive the agenda further.

As OFI's Dairy Sustainability Lead will guide the sustainability strategy to manage risks and capitalise on opportunities, set detailed priorities and targets, develop and implement projects and partnerships, track and report on progress, and work with other parts of the business to align with OFI's overall business strategy and purpose. There will be a particular focus on understanding and driving positive impacts in OFI Dairy's trading supply chains, with an initial focus on Europe and progressively reaching all parts of the international supply chains.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Guide and develop OFI Dairy's sustainability strategy, goals and targets in partnership with the OFI Dairy management team and OFI's corporate sustainability team

  • Engage with OFI Dairy's suppliers to establish traceability of milk products to an appropriate level and understand the environmental, welfare and social impacts of OFI milk and dairy product supply chains

  • Work with suppliers and partners to establish the measurable footprint of OFI Milk Products and increase the volumes eligible to enter OFI's industry-leading sustainability platform, AtSource

  • Act as the OFI Dairy anchor for key partnerships and relationships with third parties relating to sustainability performance, including multi-stakeholder alliances leading action and setting standards on social issues, climate, biodiversity, water, soil and waste

  • Set and track progress against environmental performance indicators, in partnership with BUs/Operating Groups and Functions, and own OFI's Dairy's sustainability reporting for purposes of annual strategic reports and principal ESG frameworks

You will have:

  • A passion for sustainable food production

  • A proven background in agri-business, with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by farmers and other players in the agriculture industry

  • Technical knowledge relating to relevant topics including Animal Welfare; Greenhouse gases (the main contributors, and opportunities to mitigate); Resource Management

  • Willingness to travel extensively to form relationships and map the supply chain

  • Strong project management and organisational skills, including team management and goal-setting, workflow and budget management, and a focus on delivery

It would be helpful if you also possess:

  • Practical experience of dairy/beef farming

  • Experience of building relationships with suppliers, leading to the creation of impactful programmes
