RE Tech Advisors is currently seeking a commercially driven and experienced leader to grow their commercial real estate ESG programs. Among other things, this position will manage the client relationship with a global leader in CRE - Blackstone's Real Estate ESG team and Blackstone Real Estate portfolio companies.

What we are looking for in you:

You are an industry guru with a strong background in commercial real estate and energy efficiency, carbon, and/or ESG program deployment.

You are a developer of others with a successful track record and a solid reputation for building and supporting high-growth, high performing client management teams. You have proven experience overseeing and coaching others in business development, new client engagement, relationship management, and delivery.

And you are budget savvy with 5+ years' experience overseeing budgets of varying sizes and scale with minimal oversight.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (Concentration in ESG, Energy Resources, Sustainability, Business, or related field).

  • At least ten years of applicable work experience in both commercial real estate and energy efficiency, carbon, and/or ESG program deployment.

  • At least five years experience managing large teams in a consulting environment, specifically serving as a direct supervisor to staff, overseeing work and performance, motivating, providing feedback, performing staff reviews, setting clear goals and expectations, and other people management administrative tasks.

  • At least three years experience serving as an Energy and/or ESG program manager for multiple client engagements with minimal oversight, with combined budgets of at least $2 million annually

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in a client-facing consulting role, delivering professional services.

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple Program Managers to ensure successful client delivery.

  • Strong business and problem-solving acumen, ability to diagnose client needs and market context, and translate into compelling ESG strategies that drive value.

  • Experience developing and administering successful sustainability, ESG, energy and/or emissions reduction programs across multiple building portfolios, with specific expertise, focused on one or more of the following commercial sectors: office, multifamily, retail, warehouse, senior care, medical office, and hospitality.

  • Experience in sustainability strategies and energy efficiency technologies for existing buildings.

  • Possess an understanding of analytical measures and be able to direct the writing of reports to include details and summaries that identify and recommend operational best practices, with a focus on low and no-cost strategies.

  • Experience developing and managing multiple time-based budgets, both as time and materials, as well as fixed prices.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead internal and client engagements.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

  • Ability to effectively manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment to ensure client and internal needs are being met in a timely manner.

  • Possess sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information.

  • Ability to manage up, down, and across the organization, as well as outside clients and vendors.

  • Superior interpersonal skills, including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude. Ability to manage challenging interpersonal situations, including employee and client relationships.

  • Very proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to a changing landscape and client needs, being able to pivot and adjust priorities and approaches.

  • An understanding of the importance of continuous learning, self-awareness, owning mistakes and continuous improvement.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage the client relationship with the Blackstone Real Estate ESG team.

  • Oversee a team of Program Managers who manage the emissions reduction and ESG programs at Blackstone-owned real estate portfolio companies. Train, coach and mentor Program Managers, provide strategic guidance and direction as needed.

  • Work in close coordination with our practice area teams to bring expertise and specialized technical support to clients. Our practise areas include Carbon & Finance Solutions, Engineering, Data & Analytics, and Marketing & Communications.

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of client programs that include a range of program components to include, but not limited to:

  • Development and execute overall client strategy and program design.

  • Utility data collection, benchmarking and tracking in EPA's ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager tool, as well as client third-party data management providers.

  • Monitoring, tracking, and reporting on property performance (energy, water, and waste).

  • Identification and deployment of appropriate energy efficiency and emissions reduction measures, including low and no-cost strategies as well as Capex projects.

  • Third-party reporting, such as GRESB, CDP, and GHG inventories, as well as CSR and ESG, reports.

  • Oversee program implementation, including program design, securing client buy-in and approval, tracking, execution, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, program evaluation and refinement.

  • Engage with clients as the strategic advisor and overall program oversight to ensure client success. Build and maintain key customer relationships to create opportunities for both short and long-term client growth. Visit client sites as needed to meet with the client or oversee the work of our project team.

  • Actively engage in strategic analysis, planning, and execution of client program activities.

  • Provide team leadership.

  • Review strategic client deliverables for quality control and budget accountability, ensuring the work is accurate, on time, on budget and meets the client's needs.

  • Serve as a supervisor to one or more Associate Managers and/or Program Managers. Provide oversight in the management of their direct reports. Ensure team training and development. Evoke creative and innovative thinking from team members while helping them to develop their skills and achieve career goals.

  • Oversee/Manage all aspects of consulting contracts and proposals, including marketing, scope development, proposal writing and budgeting, project execution, budget tracking, and supervision of staff.

  • Monitor to ensure all project engagements are on time and within budget.

  • Oversee staff planning and resource allocation for Program Managers and their consulting teams. Monitor team capacity, identify the hiring needs, and provide hiring recommendations.

  • Perform all other duties as needed and assigned.

Additional desired skills and experience:

Candidates should have experience in at least two of the areas listed below:

  • An understanding of energy management, program design, and account management, with knowledge in the real estate industry.

  • Experience working with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) programs, preferably in the real estate investment management industry.

  • Familiarity with industry reporting frameworks such as GRESB, CDP, UN PRI, or TCFD.

  • Knowledge or insight into business drivers and material ESG aspects that improve business, investment, and real estate financial performance.

  • Experience with greenhouse gas inventories and carbon management strategies, including carbon neutrality or net-zero programs.

  • Knowledge of energy efficiency and renewable energy financing, including financing mechanisms, major players, and market trends.

  • Familiarity with U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.

Location:

The strong preference is for this position to be based out of the headquarters office in Tysons Corner, VA; however, they will consider qualified remote candidates. RE Tech supports a hybrid work model with flexible work schedules that include a mix of in-office and work from home.
