This role would be an opportunity to join one of the leading international retailers, operating in 11 countries and covering 86 regions. Corporate Responsibility is an integral part of ALDI SOUTH Group and is well integrated into their everyday operations and corporate strategy.

Given their ambitious net-zero and climate targets, ALDI SOUTH Group are looking for a Director of Climate and Waste to help drive the climate strategy and achieve these targets. This role will report to the Group Director of Corporate Responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for managing, implementing and further developing the CR strategy in the areas of:

  • Climate Action (e.g. operational and supply chain emission reduction)

  • Climate Data (e.g. ensuring climate data is available to be included in ESG reporting)

  • Waste (e.g. looking at and reducing food and operational waste)

  • You will be a part of the Senior Management team, directly reporting to the Group Director of Corporate Responsibility

  • Collaborating closely with the international buying, international supply chain management and country representatives across the ALDI SOUTH Group to develop, implement and report climate goals and strategy

  • Assist in the development of even more ambitious net-zero and Scope 1, 2 and 3 climate targets, developing the roadmap and ensuring their subsequent implementation

  • Growing and developing the team to ensure they are well equipped to deliver on the climate strategy

  • Representing the department internally with key internal and external stakeholders, committees and working groups

  • Continuously optimising processes and procedures.

Key Requirements:

  • A strong track record in leading, developing and growing teams in an international setting

  • 10+ years experience in a sustainability function within a similar commercial setting, large international retailers or FMCG organisations

  • Strong knowledge of climate action (encompassing all aspects of scope 1, 2 and 3), waste and alternative energy with a clear track record of successfully embedding these into existing business models

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to work across multiple teams in a large and international organisation, align goals and drive overall success with cultural sensitivity

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complexity into clarity and experience in updating C-level stakeholders

  • A strategic mindset, comfortable in fast-paced environments and the ability to provide well-thought-through solutions based on data analysis while considering the "bigger picture"

  • A structured and results-oriented working style with a high level of organisational and project management skills

  • Fluency in English

  • Willingness to travel internationally
