Acre is engaged on a retained basis to recruit a Director of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) for a prestigious private equity firm.

The ESG Director is an exciting and newly created job with a remit to further develop and enhance our client's longstanding commitment to investing responsibly. The appointment is fully endorsed by the founding partners and supported by the wider leadership team.

With circa 8-10 portfolio companies at any one time across a variety of industry sectors, this is an opportunity to drive impact through both the review and enhancement of ESG strategy at fund level through to implementation and engagement at portfolio company level. Clients are international top tier institutional investors including private and public pension funds, and insurance firms.

Responsibilities:

  • Improving current ESG policies, data collection and reporting at both fund and portfolio company levels.

  • Working closely with colleagues to facilitate improved understanding and integration of material ESG factors into their investment decisions and throughout the investment lifecycle, covering both risks and opportunities.

  • Management of ESG reporting.

  • Providing technical ESG assistance and support to portfolio companies, including coaching and best practice sharing.

  • Assessing the positive financial impact of ESG initiatives in portfolio companies.

  • Supporting external communication to investors and stakeholders on material developments in the fund's ESG performance and credentials.

  • Remaining up to date on ESG trends and developments and translating them into actionable improvements in the fund and portfolio companies.

  • Chairing and organizing the agenda for quarterly ESG Committee meetings.

  • Delivering the fund's first annual impact report.

Experience Sought:

  • Experience of ESG strategy development and implementation within private equity.

  • In addition to experience within an investment manager, experience with a consultancy or inhouse driving sustainability efforts and engagement with investors is key.

  • ESG reporting, and development of measurement frameworks.

  • Relevant educational qualifications, including a Bachelor's or Master's degree in either finance, economics, environment management or sustainability.

  • The ability to influence and catalyze change to improve ESG performance of companies through the application of exceptional interpersonal, relationship building and collaboration skills.

  • Commercial, creative and pragmatic thinking about improving ESG practices.

  • The ability to work autonomously with a hands-on approach.

  • The aptitude to excel in a small, entrepreneurial and meritocratic business.
