If you're looking for an opportunity which stands out in the market, harnessing your environmental experience to drive tangible change in one of the most challenging global industries, this is your chance to be part of a dynamic team.

With sustainability embedded throughout its operations globally and rooted throughout Group and across operations, Drax has some of the most ambitious environmental targets in the energy space with a Carbon Negative goal of 2030.

We are working with Drax to hire an Environmental Lead for their Generation team, someone to drive environmental performance and continuous improvement across their portfolio of assets. You will provide essential input to Drax's sustainability performance for Climate Positive, People Positive and Nature Positive, the three pillars of their Sustainability Strategy. You will be a crucial link between the Group and two of Drax's key operations.

As the largest source of renewable energy in the UK, Drax aims to be Carbon Negative by 2030, using Bioenergy with Carbon Capture Storage (BECCS) technology to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere at scale whilst delivering renewable energy.

If you're looking to combine your environmental management experience, build relationships internally and externally and become a key player in Drax's Carbon Negative strategy, then this role is one to explore.

To excel in the role, you'll bring:

  • A track record of reviewing environmental performance and collating it into digestible reports that people inside and outside Drax will understand

  • Strategic thinking and excellent influencing and negotiating skills, with the ability to easily build effective and transparent relationships

  • Knowledge and experience working with emission to air regulation for materials such as particulate matter and volatile organic compounds

  • Demonstrable subject matter expertise and an understanding of environmental compliance and carbon accounting methodologies

  • Experience in working with environmental compliance and permitting within the context of COMAH regulations

Drax is looking for a self-starter who can drill down into the technical aspects of the role but also be able to engage with teams at both sites and senior stakeholders in other parts of the business.

What you'll be doing:

  • Contributing to the creation of the Generation business plan whilst effectively communicating plans and ensuring key environmental deliverables are achieved, including decarbonisation

  • Leading the Generation environment meeting, delivering updates on new regulations and initiatives relating to environmental performance

  • Collaborating with colleagues in the Sustainability team and Pellet Operations teams to align the Generation assets to deliver on the projects and tracking of KPIs for the Climate Positive, People Positive and Nature Positive corporate vision

  • Collating Generation-wide data for the annual report and providing a monthly update for the Group HSE report as pertains to Generation's environmental performance and activities

  • Representing Drax with regulatory bodies, the community and local authorities, such as the Environment Agency and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency

This role is the interface between group and operations and will drive Drax's progress towards becoming carbon negative. You will play a vital role in interpreting the data and capitalising on opportunities to input new and effective ways of working to accelerate Drax toward true sustainability.

The role includes travel to Glasgow and Selby.
