Acre is engaged on a retained basis to recruit an Environment, Social & Governance Manager for the London office of a leading international private equity firm with offices around the world. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our client's long-established Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) programme; to further integrate ESG factors into their portfolio companies and at fund level. This is an exciting chance to add value to their private equity and private debt funds.

This appointment will build on our client's commitment to being a responsible and progressive investor by supporting sustainability strategy and policies that both protect and create value.

Our client invests in a wide range of industry sectors also including consumer, healthcare, service and technology ranging in size and complexity with global customers and supply chains. Their clients are international top tier institutional investors including private and public pension funds.

Responsibilities as part of working closely with investment colleagues and portfolio companies:

  • Provide ESG analysis in the due diligence process for potential investments

  • Supporting the ongoing monitoring of ESG performance of portfolio companies by delivering ESG reviews and working with external consultants

  • Influencing and engaging with top executives and senior managers of portfolio companies to support the improvement of ESG performance and risk management, including topics such as food safety, health & safety, cyber security and data protection initiatives.

  • Leading on key aspects of portfolio-wide projects such as energy and climate change and contributing to working groups on diversity and inclusion

  • Enhancing reporting and monitoring systems

  • Support external communication to investors and stakeholders on material developments in the firm's ESG performance

  • Contributing to the ESG strategy at all stages of the investment process

Desired experience and competencies:

  • Experience in sustainability/ESG gained either in consulting or in industry, for example corporates or finance industry/investment banking

  • A track record of delivering sustainability/ESG due diligence, engagement and/or strategy and framework implantation

  • Knowledge and understanding of environment, social and/or governance topics, approaches to ESG integration and value creation levers for the private equity industry

  • A commercial approach to the analysis of ESG/sustainability drivers applied to business models and strategy

  • Attention to detail and the ability to review and interpret data and make appropriate recommendations

  • Strong analytical skills

  • A naturally confident networker with a strong ability to develop relationships

  • Creative thinking for improving ESG practices and affecting change
