About the Client

We are working with a leading firm that takes pride in creating strong relationships with its clients, becoming not just trusted advisers but valued partners. As a top firm of chartered accountants, tax, and business advisers, they work with a diverse range of clients from entrepreneurs to multinational corporations. The firm is committed to helping clients navigate the ever-changing business landscape and proactively identify future opportunities.

With a comprehensive range of financial and business strategy services offered across the UK and Ireland, and as a member of a global network, they have the reach and expertise to support clients wherever they are needed. Their approach is agile and responsive, ensuring they can have the right conversations at the right time, identifying goals and business needs for now and tomorrow.

Purpose of the Role

The ESG Technical Manager will review and determine ESG-related procedures on audit, assurance, and technical advisory engagements. The role involves communicating technical requirements to clients and audit teams. A strong understanding of sustainability-related issues across environmental, social, and governance matters is essential. The successful candidate will have a high-level understanding of various ESG reporting frameworks (CSRD / ESRS, TCFD, TNFD, GRI, CDP, SECR) and financial reporting (IFRS and FRS 102). More importantly, the candidate should be able to research, analyse, and communicate technical requirements in plain English to a non-technical audience. The assessment process will include writing a technical brief and delivering a presentation.

This role supports the operational ESG Audit team, led by the ESG Audit Manager, in a growing team where technical support is crucial.

  • Work with the ESG Audit Manager on operational and strategic assignments, splitting the workload of audits within the technical team, and providing guidance and support.

  • Support CSRD implementation programmes and other technical advisory engagements with large listed and unlisted groups, collaborating with international colleagues.

  • Plan and deliver work promptly, adhering to budget and timetable, and communicate potential delays and quality concerns early.

  • Master technical ESG-related requirements such as UK Climate-related Financial Disclosures, TCFD framework, ISSB standards, ESRS, TNFD framework, GRI, and CDP.

  • Support the Sustainability & ESG Technical Director and ESG Audit Manager by attending or leading client and internal meetings as appropriate.

  • Assist in marketing services to targets and clients, developing proposals, and participating in pitches.

  • Engage in ad-hoc project work including compliance or value-added services.

  • Communicate technical requirements clearly to the ESG audit and advisory teams.

  • Maintain effective internal and external communication.

  • Report upstream and downstream issues appropriately.

  • Assist in preparing and delivering audit and assurance training, including the weekly "It's Not Rocket Science" training and regulatory compliance training.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, or overseas equivalents) with experience acting as audit senior/assistant manager on financial statement audits.

  • Experience in managing a small team at an operational level.

  • Professional presentation skills and strong written communication.
