Are you an ethical trade professional interested in developing the ethics and sustainability strategy at a smaller organisation where you'll have greater ownership and influence on direction and strategy?

At Nkuku, in a newly created role reporting to the CEO, you'll have the opportunity to develop and deliver the human rights and sustainability strategy and initiatives both internally and externally. The role can be based remotely with presence in Devon required twice a month.

Nkuku create beautifully handmade home and lifestyle products, working with artisans throughout the world, combining timeless design with traditional skills and natural materials. You'll ensure that communities involved in making the products they sell are ethically employed and safeguarded.

You'll also have the opportunity to:

  • Identify opportunities for environmental and ethical improvement in supply chain and develop relevant sustainability goals and initiatives.

  • Execute the ethical programme including audit assessment and corrective action planning.

  • Liaise with the New Product Development team to ensure prospective and new suppliers ethical and environmental status align with expectations.

  • Work closely with our Brand and Marketing team to build our profile within the ethical and sustainability sphere.

  • Develop polices and guidance for both internal and external use including human rights, raw material sourcing and traceability etc. Ensure alignment across the company.

  • Keep abreast of industry best practice and changes in legislation, working with relevant departments to implement necessary changes.

As part of your role, you will also have opportunity to travel internationally to engage and build relationships with suppliers.

You will leverage the following:

  • Experience in ethics and sustainability for a multi-channel or retail brand.

  • Audit programme management, corrective action planning and grievance resolution experience

  • A good understanding of linking the benefits of sustainability and ethical trade to the commercials of a business.

  • Communication and leadership skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels across a business and their stakeholders.

  • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions to unique ethical and sustainability issues.
