Thai Union is looking to appoint a European Sustainability Director, to lead the company's regional sustainability efforts as the company builds on its award-winning SeaChange programme with the addition of new goals and commitments for 2030. The key to the company achieving its vision will be through implementation at a local and brand level, coupled with strong retailer and customer engagement.
The successful candidate will work closely with the global team in Bangkok, and other regional sustainability teams in Asia and the Americas, in order to implement best practices at a local level and use local knowledge to shape future policies and strategies.
In this role, you will proactively engage with key customers based in the European region (the biggest three markets in order of size are the UK, France and Germany) to update them on SeaChange milestones and seek opportunities to enhance the Thai Union's position through commercial and sustainability partnerships.
Responsibilities:
The role will develop and support global initiatives, with this work being informed by an understanding of the European-based businesses and supply chains
The role will provide strategic direction and consultation Thai Union's portfolio of European brands and enable them to meet the company's new SeaChange goals, mitigate risk, and drive customer-level communications that promote the company's industry-leading sustainability position
Drive sustainability commitments across EMEA-based processing facilities
Ensure alignment between global SeaChange strategy and the sustainability trends in Europe; monitoring a broad range of stakeholders including governments, customers, NGOs and European industry initiatives
Identify partnerships and participate in industry collaborations that add value to Thai Union
Engage with a range of internal stakeholders to cascade sustainability commitments and monitor progress across the company. Be a driving force to make sure that key milestones are met
Represent Thai Union at key European sustainability events, speaking on behalf of the company and/ or its brands
Support internal and external communications, including press releases, website content, blogs, newsletters, etc.
Be a driving force to suggest innovative ways to maintain Thai Union's sustainability status as a seafood industry leader
Skills & Experience:
Experience in a management role within sustainability, fishery or seafood experience is highly desirable
Technical knowledge of conservation and fisheries/seafood sustainability issues. Additional knowledge in the other areas of the Thai Union's sustainability strategy would be favourable such as climate change, traceability, ethical aspects of seafood or packaging
Experience engaging with customers, industry bodies and NGOs
Knowledge of sustainability reporting, standards, initiatives and industry-relevant certifications
Ability to work across different geographies and time zones
Strong and effective customer and supplier influencing skills
Ability to think strategically and drive an agenda forward
Excellent presentation skills with the ability to present at all levels at TU and external stakeholders
