One of the world's most committed responsible investors is searching for an Investment Manager to join their nature impact investment team. This is a unique opportunity to work directly with its private markets investing team, who are currently building out a new nature-based solutions (NBS) investment platform. This platform will be a highly innovative investment vehicle focused on applying a fundamental, science-based approach to creating value for investors and society through investing in natural capital.

As a member of this newly formed impact investment team for NBS, you will support the development of this new capability within a leading UK institutional investment management firm. You will be responsible for the sourcing, underwriting and ongoing asset management of peatland, woodland, biodiversity net gain, large rural estate and other habitat restoration projects generating carbon, biodiversity and other environmental and social benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Deal sourcing, underwriting and managing assets for woodland creation, peatland restoration and large rural estate acquisition opportunities

  • Managing investments and providing data analysis support to address client requests

  • Supporting the expansion of the NBS asset class as part of the broader real assets and private equity team

  • Undertaking pre-bid site appraisal and due diligence

  • Preparing bid reports and property appraisals

  • Evaluating and producing estimates of woodland creation, peatland restoration schemes and/or large rural estate economics

    • Experience in the preparation of multi-period discounted cash flow models, and the generation of return estimates expressed as IRR, ROI, Cash Yield, and Total Return, as well as experience using the Land Expectation Value (LEV) approach is a plus

  • Using the WCC/Peatland carbon calculators and integrating estimates of carbon sequestration into property appraisals

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the various woodland creation and related grant schemes in England, Scotland and Wales, and their integration into property appraisals

  • Familiarity with the planting permission process

  • Familiarity with peatland restoration and/or BNG scheme economics would be a plus

  • Experience with venture or other growth capital investing in nature-based or climate-impact businesses or infrastructure would be a plus

  • A real assets, infrastructure, venture or forestry investment manager with 5+ years of experience

  • Strong academics (2:1 minimum degree classification) / MBA

  • Experience working as part of a small team with a varied workload

  • Experience in the preparation of discounted cash flow models

  • Candidates without direct NBS experience, but with experience in the financial evaluation of infrastructure or renewable energy assets, development finance, growth/venture capital and/or carbon projects, are invited to apply
