Cotton Council International (CCI) is a non-profit trade association that promotes U.S. cotton fiber and manufactured cotton products around the globe with their COTTON USATM mark.

In collaboration with the National Cotton Council (NCC) and Cotton Incorporated (CI), CCI is actively supporting the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol (USCTP), a new and innovative programme designed to help industry progress its sustainability commitments and ensure cotton producers are farming responsibly.

Acre are supporting the CCI in their search for a Global Sustainability Manager; responsible for analysing data generated by the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol in order to calculate and understand the impact of U.S. cotton on a range of environmental metrics.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicating relevant insights from the data in appropriate presentation formats, to various target audiences including but not limited to: environmental civil societies, brands and retailers, U.S. cotton groups, government and textile industry executives, investor communities.

  • Developing and implementing annual objectives for the technical analysis which this position will provide.

  • A list of expected activities within the annual plan may include:

  • Author 'white papers' and other academically credible content on sustainability for use in external communication.

  • Develop relevant, audience specific materials that communicate the environmental impact of U.S. cotton production practices.

  • Present to global brands and retailers, as a key audience, the data and analysis via both in person visits as well as virtually.

  • Identify areas for improvement in best practices for growing U.S. cotton that will result in superior improvement in sustainability metrics.

  • Perform technical analyses required by partner organizations in order for U.S. cotton to be aligned with global ambitions and recognised as sustainable. Collaborate with CCI/NCC/USCTP staff on sustainability issues, raising capability across the organization.

Reporting into the Executive Director, as Global Sustainability Manager, you will be a horizon scanner,

aware of other relevant certification and sustainability programmes and able to tap into a diverse network of contacts from brands, MSIs and other organisations that drive sustainable agriculture.

Through a collaborative review process with other cotton sustainability scientists, your technical expertise will be critical in realising the outputs from the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol.

In addition, you will have:

  • Masters or PhD in an environmental sustainability field

  • Very strong analytical competency with experience managing large data sets and the ability to extract relevant insights

  • Internationally recognised accreditation in environmental data management

  • Familiarity with prominent sustainability reporting requirements such as the Global Reporting Initiative

  • Published peer-reviewed papers in the sustainability field
