Acre has partnered with John Swire & Sons Ltd., a multi-national conglomerate covering a diverse range of sectors from international shipping, agribusinesses and food chain, to energy transition and new fuels, to help recruit a Group Sustainable Business Manager. This role will support senior management to drive Swire's commitment to sustainable development.

The Group Sustainable Business Manager will work very closely with the Head of Sustainability and the responsible director to further develop the Group's sustainable business ambitions, and especially to guide its operating companies to accelerate delivery.


The major responsibilities of this role will be:

  • Drive the implementation of the group's sustainable development strategy, 'SwireTHRIVE' into the Group's operating companies, supporting operating companies to develop meaningful numerical targets in each impact pillar, and guiding businesses through structural and strategic changes that may be necessary to achieve these targets

  • Work with colleagues in the JS&S Sustainable Development Office to drive the integration of sustainability goals into other head-office based business function (finance, risk, IT, internal audit etc.)

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of an ESG policy suite for the group

  • Responsible for the ongoing development of the internal sustainable development fund, optimising the fund and supporting operating companies to create a project pipeline that will further accelerate the delivery of target

  • Provide expert strategic advice, develop and execute group-level strategic projects for senior leadership

  • Maintains an excellent professional network and connect the organisation (at both group and operating company level) with external specialists to drive improvement on specific sustainability issues

  • Develop an external engagement strategy and influence internally at senior levels

The successful candidate will need experience in:

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to engage and influence at a senior level

  • Understanding of multiple sectors (with experience in industrial sectors an advantage) and their sustainability issues and priorities. Some commercial or operational experience would be an advantage

  • Experience of influencing and managing complex stakeholders, including senior stakeholders

  • Demonstrable credibility in sustainable business transformation and change management

  • International experience with knowledge of emerging markets an advantage

  • Enthusiasm, purpose

  • Driven individual, self-starter with significant motivation to make a positive change
