Are you an ambitious sustainability professional who wants to help shape the ESG ambitions of a FTSE- listed organisation?

MJ Gleeson plc is one of the fastest-growing housebuilders in the UK and one that prides itself on being sustainable. This is demonstrated through their commitment to building houses for first-time buyers, key workers and those on low incomes. As a result of their commitment to sustainability, Gleeson was awarded the title of "Most Sustainable UK Business" at the National PLC Awards in 2018.

This is a great time to join Gleeson as they take their sustainability strategy to the next level with the appointment of a newly created Group Sustainability Manager. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the Sustainability Committee, you will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the group's ESG objectives.

As the Group Sustainability Manager, you will:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the group's sustainability strategy, ensuring challenging targets are achieved

  • Work with key external stakeholders (sustainability rating agencies, industry and sustainability bodies) to ensure the group's strategy is aligned and clearly understood

  • Lead group sustainability reporting within recognised reporting standards and frameworks

  • Develop the group's carbon emissions strategy with potential to lead a Carbon Net Zero project that is in line with the Paris Agreement

  • Work with Technical and Commercial teams to ensure the strategy is implemented and targets are achieved

  • Develop and implement key initiatives, in particular on waste management and water usage

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • The capability to influence across a wide range of stakeholders and translate sustainability targets into required actions at an operational level

  • The ability to manage a busy and varied workload accurately and efficiently, delivering to deadlines and managing multiple tasks simultaneously

  • The ability to collate and manage large amounts of data and provide inciteful analysis and reports

  • Successful track record in a similar capacity and/or demonstrable success in delivering comparable projects

  • Knowledge of environmental frameworks and terminology (e.g., SBTs, Net Zero, Scopes 1-3, Biodiversity net gain)

  • Strong technical knowledge of key disclosure frameworks such as TCFD & SASB

In return for your skills and experience, you also be joining an FTSE-listed organisation in a strong financial position that is committed to continuous sustainable improvement.
