Acre has partnered with a leading private equity firm, with an active portfolio in oil and gas and clean energy, striving to be an authentic leader within the investment space, as well as across ESG and Impact initiatives.

This Head of ESG will be play a leading role in the continued development, oversight, and implementation of the firm's ESG program.

Reporting and serving on the firm's ESG Committee, this Head of ESG will work closely with senior firm leadership in implementing an ESG program, playing both a strategic and functional role in helping to drive continuous improvement in their ESG approach, as well as work closely with portfolio companies to improve their ESG strategy, performance, and reporting. The incoming Head of ESG will work to further institutionalize ESG as a key aspect of diligence, leveraging sustainability principles to better assess risk and importantly identify and create opportunities for value creation in partnership with the investment team and portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine relevant ESG and Impact metrics for all portfolio companies to operationalize change and better assess risk, and lead the quarterly and annual collection and evaluation of ESG and Impact KPI data from portfolio companies

  • Lead the annual preparation of ESG and Impact reports to LPs

  • Engage directly with portfolio companies to support, inform, and monitor their ESG performance and catalyze change in both the traditional energy and energy transition investments

  • Leverage experience and knowledge across the portfolio to facilitate group learning and collaboration on ESG best practices, opportunities, challenges, and successes

  • Evolve ESG diligence frameworks, tools and processes for the current portfolio and future investments and lead in execution of ESG and Impact related due diligence across their traditional energy and energy transition investment strategies

  • Create specialist and consulting partner ecosystem for ESG diligence and workstreams

  • Support evolving climate risk and opportunity analysis, including developing and evaluating energy transition strategies

  • Interact with investors to provide periodic updates on the firm's ESG program and performance

  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement ESG partnerships and affiliations in the industry to improve our ESG knowledge and performance

  • Contribute to broader firm-wide efforts to set long-term ESG and Impact goals and to measure firm progress against those goals

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have proven relevant work experience developing and implementing ESG-related initiatives and engaging with key stakeholders to understand their unique challenges and review their risks and opportunities. Further, they will have experience with various relevant ESG frameworks and reporting. The Head of ESG will institutionalize ESG as an integral part of the investment diligence process to educate the investment team and drive improvement throughout the investment lifecycle, specifically around climate change topics. This candidate will also ideally have background experience in the energy industry.

Qualifications

  • Passion for ESG leadership, including on topics related to climate change

  • Strong personal ambition, initiative, and desire to help companies continuously improve their performance

  • Prior experience in ESG / sustainability at a consulting firm, financial services firm or in a corporate ESG group

  • Strong knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks, reporting practices and trends

  • Strong knowledge of GHG emissions, and preference for candidates with prior experience in reporting emissions and/or evaluating opportunities for reducing emissions in the industrial, power or oil & gas sector

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships (person in the role will work with companies across the firm's portfolio and their ability to influence behavior and generate buy-in will be critical to success)

  • Ability to work independently to set ambitious goals and to work within a timeline to deliver on those objectives
