Are you looking to join an organisation where a positive health, safety & wellbeing culture underpins everything they do? Does your business care more about following rules than innovation?

The Port of London Authority is responsible for managing 95 miles of the River Thames, from Teddington to the North Sea, working to keep commercial and leisure users safe, protecting and enhancing the environment and promoting the use of the river for trade and travel.

Working from the head office in Gravesend, the leadership team is looking for someone like you to be the face of Health, Safety & Wellbeing for the Port of London Authority, helping to embed strategy throughout the organisation, as well as coaching, developing and upskilling a team of HS&W specialists. Whilst reporting into the HR Director day-to-day, you will also have a direct reporting line into the ExCo, making HS&W the only function with this level of responsibility.

You'll be:

  • A confident and experienced leader - you'll be responsible for developing and then driving a people-focused health, safety & wellbeing strategy across the organisation, which will enable a long-term positive culture in all PLA operations.

  • Passionate about people - you'll be responsible for leading, motivating and developing the health, safety & wellbeing team, ensuring high performance and achieving ambitious goals.

  • Organised and able to prioritise - your skills and experience will be in high demand, so it's imperative that you are able to work with both autonomy and efficiency, choosing carefully which projects to prioritise at a given time.

  • In terms of experience:

  • It's important that you have previous health & safety leadership experience within either the marine, shipping, construction, network, water or infrastructure sectors.

  • It's important that you're technically proficient - CMIOSH or GradIOSH working towards chartership is essential.

  • It's vital that you have led and coached a team in a prior role.

  • If you can demonstrate that you can build meaningful relationships from site-level to board room, that will go a long way

You will be based within a commutable distance of Gravesend in Kent. In return for your skills and expertise, you will be met with a competitive salary, a leadership team bonus and a car allowance. You'll also have some peace of mind - despite recent events, the Port of London Authority has never been busier and is pushing ahead with its hiring and development plans.
