We are currently supporting an innovative impact project development company incubated by a leading sustainability business, that builds and sells pioneering sustainable businesses and projects, across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Our client covers a range of asset classes including sustainable industrial parks & special economic zones, real estate & social infrastructure, low carbon & accessible utilities and productive & regenerative land and ocean assets. They are currently looking for experienced project development professionals to lead projects and grow the company.
Responsibilities:
Commercial execution:
Leading engagements and negotiations with investors, offtakers and partners, including developing pitches and execution of legal partnership documents and contracts
Assessing and scrutinising the viability of business models, proposing creative opportunities and solutions to enhance bankability and impact potential
Structuring and analysing financial and operational models with the ability to draw key insights needed to make decisions
Project management:
Managing several projects at once, defining deliverables/outputs and developing workplans, resource requirements and budgets
Creating a conducive environment for client, vendor and internal teams, shifting priorities based on changing needs and managing time and resources effectively to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner and projects are executed
Business development:
Leveraging your existing professional and personal network in key markets to enhance partnership/project opportunities for the firm
Executing top-down country macro-economic analysis and bottom up stakeholder engagement to identify potential projects/opportunities to be developed
Actively building your project and the firm's networks and designing and incubating new ideas and opportunities
Stakeholder management:
Proactively building relationships across top-level management, managing client/stakeholder relationships and providing strategic advice across projects and workstreams
Providing constructive challenge to clients and building consensus within complex situation
People development:
Developing and supporting junior staff members to build robust business plans that: capture commercial opportunities with clear value propositions; illustrate a roadmap to bankability, and; highlight potential positive impact, with an astute understanding of risks to execution and mitigation strategies
Proactively looking for opportunities to mentor colleagues
Creating a supportive and fun environment for colleagues and enabling an atmosphere of empathetic teaming and collaboration that rewards constructive challenge
Requirements:
Extensive experience leading project development from concept through development stages to bankability and financial close
Transaction experience, ideally leading deals from sell or buy side, though advisory still highly valuable
Sector focus covering infrastructure, industrial real estate, power, utilities and/or agriculture
Geographic focus covering East and/or West Africa
Track record working with local and multinational partners in the financial and private sector
Demonstrated to have excelled in analytical & conceptual thinking, execution, project management, people & influencing, teaming & collaboration and entrepreneurship
Masters or equivalent degree
Ability to travel internationally, ideally for longer periods of time on occasion (travel requirements are flexible based on interest/needs)
Experience in the following are desirable: strategy consulting, project management and/or development, corporate business development, investment banking, commercial law, project finance and/or investment legal structuring.
