The Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) is a membership organisation working with tea companies, development organisations and governments to improve the lives of tea workers, farmers and the environment in which they live and work. 

Much of the world’s tea is grown in places that face significant sustainability challenges. ETP’s programmes are focused on driving forward long-term systemic changes across three pillars - economics, equality and environment. These programmes aim to improve the progress that is being made towards attaining the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals in tea-growing regions. 

Reporting to the Head of Programmes, the Insights Manager will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) framework of ETP’s projects and programmes, along with the management of commercially sensitive supply chain information from ETP’s members. 

The Insights Manager will contribute to the development of a systematic monitoring framework to improve the qualitative and quantitative evidence gathered by the projects and programmes. He/she/they will also provide technical assistance to the implementing agencies and partners and build the MEL capacity of the ETP regional teams. 

The Manager will collate, analyse and create insights based upon the confidential market data shared by ETP’s >50 member companies, to enhance ETP’s programmatic work.

The Opportunity:

  • Reviewing the quality of existing data in the project subject areas, the methods of collecting it, and the degree to which it will provide good baseline statistics for impact evaluation.

  • Making recommendations for the overall framework, for project MEL, for example baseline setting, mid-term project review, impact assessment, final evaluation, and develop relevant data collection systems, templates and best practice guidance. 

  • Assisting the project teams to develop and/or finalise the project work plans with MEL planning and help to keep them updated in accordance with project activities and timeframes.

  • Developing strong relationships with collaborating partners, review their existing approaches and management information systems and agree on any required changes, support and resources. 

  • Providing day to day MEL support to project teams on impact measurement, checking all new projects have a MEL plan and make recommendations for how to develop one. 

  • Working closely with the regional/project teams to collate data on a regular basis, to measure achievement against performance indicators. Testing the integrity of the data by probing the data collection method for each indicator with the regional teams. 

  • Analysingsupplier information provided by ETP members and verify that all suppliers meet the certification requirements, liaising with certification bodies to harmonise their standards and auditing approaches.

You will have:

  • A deep understanding of data collection and analyses, with strong knowledge of strategic planning and performance. 

  • Experience in planning and performance measurement, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing MEL and performance monitoring plans. 

  • Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies, using qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, and impact data collection and analysis methodologies. 

  • Familiarity with the substantive issues handled by theETP, such as labour inspection, labour law enforcement, social dialogue. 

  • Ability to work independently, whilst also becoming an integral part of the wider ETP team. 

  • Resilient and tenacious personality, someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.
