Sartorius is truly committed to creating and implementing an impactful sustainability strategy. The existing focus was on social dimensions, this will now be extended to environmental expertise. The Product Sustainability & Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Expert role will be the first hire in this new team; a team that will continue to expand. The purpose of the team is to drive circularity and reach their climate targets. The Expert will work closely with the R&D teams, answering the question "how can we improve our products today, that we are developing for tomorrow". The Expert is responsible for developing and operating tools that enable sustainability performance quantification for Sartorius' products and solutions along their life cycle. This contributes to shape metrics that advance sustainability deployment, inform business decisions, drive prioritisation and innovation. This position will build on Sartorius' commitment to being a responsible organisation to all key stakeholders and to take the organisation to the next level in terms of product sustainability.

What will you do in this position:

  • Constructing, maintaining and improving the LCA models as well as developing & maintaining tools to support eco-design

  • Coordination of specific studies with external consultants

  • Monitoring standards, bench-marking against current best practices, to drive continuous improvement

  • Coordination of product footprint data inputs collection & reliability globally

  • Collaboration with Operations and EHS to influence the improvement of the EMS (Environmental Management System) and its processes to drive sustainability quantification excellence

  • Highlighting the most impactful areas / levers of influence to decision makers to foster improvement and identify value drivers

  • Participation in relevant external expert's fora to advance and standardise environmental sustainability performance quantification

  • Acting as an internal consultant supporting cross-functional teams in assessing and testing scenarios to improve environmental performance along the product life cycle

  • Acting as an ambassador, participation and/or development of relevant sustainability engagement programs

  • Will ideally be based in Gottingen (Germany) or Aubagne (France), with the alternative possibility to be based remotely with openness to frequent travels.

What do you bring to this position:

  • A pioneer in this technical engineering role, with demonstrable experience in quantifying sustainability and in-depth LCA knowledge. Beyond being a subject matter expert, keen on conducting stakeholder management and eco-design workshops, as well as enjoying being an internal consultant.

  • Proven years' experience in quantifying sustainability, including profound experience in carrying out LCA according to international standards using a major LCA software programs

  • Project management knowledge and experience in an international environment

  • Technical sustainability knowledge in quantifying environmental sustainability impacts

  • Experience in deploying, using/maintaining associated tools

  • Specific knowledge and experience of sustainability issues associated with plastic is highly desired

  • Experience or familiarity with manufacturing operations and supply networks, customer facing experience is a plus

  • Strong technical communication and influencing skills

  • Collaborative, problem solver, service-oriented mindset

  • Fluent English is a must, German or French is a plus

  • Ability to travel as needed (30%)
