Minerals and metals are essential for modern living. Among other things, they enable farming, healthcare, communications, water and energy supply, transport, space technology and the construction of our cities.

Investments in natural resources do not always lead to positive social and economic outcomes for human wellbeing, our planet, or the prosperity of host communities and nations. This does not have to be the case; when mining and metals companies act responsibly, the extraction and management of natural resources can be transformative for the lives of employees, their families, local communities and entire nations.

Bringing together 27 mining and metals company members and over 35 national, regional and commodity association members, ICMM has a truly global reach, and uses this platform to strengthen the social and environmental performance of the mining and metals industry while building recognition of its contribution to local communities and society at large.

About this role:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced public affairs specialist with a strong background in policy to lead ICMM's work on public affairs. You will work internally with colleagues in the project teams and externally with organisations and stakeholders to drive the development and implementation of an enhanced, integrated policy function.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and evolve the systems and processes underpinning an integrated and strategic approach to policy engagement across the organisation and with its members

  • Facilitate the identification, tracking and analysis of international and other key policy developments impacting the sustainability performance of the mining sector on prioritised policy issues

  • Work directly with contacts in key external organisations and stakeholders to understand material international policy developments related to responsible mining

  • Work closely with project and communications colleagues, developing messaging and communications to improve the visibility of ICMM members leading sustainability-related performance

  • Help build internal policy and stakeholder engagement capacity through direct support, training, as well as identifying and sharing best practice approaches

  • Lead the creation and manage the ongoing functioning of a Stakeholder Advisory Group, comprised of key leaders from civil society, international organisations and industry to inform the strategic direction of the organisation, including through engaging directly with ICMM's Council of CEOs

About you:

You will share the ICMM's passion for sustainability, have strong experience working in communications/public affairs, ideally within a consultancy, mining and metals company, government, civil society or association.

You have a good working knowledge of the global policy environment. Ideally, you will have knowledge of the extractives industry and experience working in or with corporate business across the areas of communications, stakeholder engagement or public affairs.

You will also be adaptable, creative and a strategic thinker who can move from planning to implementation with ease. A strong team player and influencer, you will have excellent interpersonal, communication and engagement skills, with the ability to build, maintain and leverage relationships both internally and across multiple external stakeholder groups.

Have we piqued your interest?

ICMM's approach is anchored in collaboration, bringing together industry and broader stakeholders such as investors, suppliers, communities, Indigenous Peoples, academia, and civil society to achieve their vision of a safe, just and sustainable world, enabled by responsibly produced minerals and metals.

Apply below before Friday 11th March if you're motivated by the thought of helping ICMM continue to drive real, meaningful change in the metals and mining industry. If you have any questions, please contact Lawrence Hallett at lawrence.hallett@acre.com.

This role, and all roles at ICMM, are open to candidates from any and all geographic regions.
