Fairtrade is a movement for change that works directly with businesses, consumers and campaigners to make trade deliver for farmers and workers.

Acre are delighted to partner with the Fairtrade Foundation, to support in their search for a Senior Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Manager, on a 18 month fixed term contract with possibility for extension.

The MEL team is fulfilling a key role in understanding the impact which the current COVID-19 pandemic is having on Fairtrade farmers and workers. In response to this, you will work alongside the Head of MEL, exploring more agile ways to collect and quality assure mixed data and engaging remotely with key stakeholders. This post will also play a role in innovating their practice in this direction, to respond to the current situation and evolving ways of working for the longer term. As well as this, you will lead on the MEL and research portfolio for the organisation's larger and more innovative accounts with Fortune 500 and FTSE organisations, and gradually taking ownership of additional MEL projects/workstreams.

Key accountabilities:

  • Working closely with the Foundation programme, supply chain and commercial teams to design, develop and manage systems, processes and projects supporting the delivery of robust and consistent MEL approaches and frameworks

  • Designing and refining innovative MEL methodologies for new projects and programmes which aim to deliver impact on systemic levels

  • Managing key relationships with and lead MEL-related work-streams involving key stakeholders from the Fairtrade International System, our commercial partners, funders, as well as key actors in origin.

  • Supporting colleagues in the Public Engagement Directorate and Policy & Research team to ensure transparent, effective and accurate evidence-based communication of Fairtrade impact and learning

Key requirements:

  • A clear track record of professional MEL or research experience on international development, agriculture, business sustainability or a related discipline

  • Experience working with theories of change (ToC) and / or comparable programme development tools and designing robust MEL frameworks for performance measurement and impact assessment

  • Experience working and communicating with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups, including those without a technical research background

  • Experience writing and communicating technical briefings, impact & research reports or comparable documents

  • Full proficiency in either quantitative or qualitative research and evaluation methodologies

  • Knowledge of certification schemes and standards e.g. ISO, ISEAL, Fairtrade, UTZ, RA
