Acre is delighted to be partnering with SailGP; a New Edge sailing league powered by nature and aspiring for net-zero ambitions as a sport by 2025. We are seeking a Sustainability Director to realise this ambition and change the perception of the sport as a force for global environmental and societal good.

Founded by Oracle's Larry Ellison in 2017, SailGP has completed a first, full successful season and is on track to start again in San Francisco in April 2021. The Sustainability Director has a fantastic opportunity to capitalise on achievements to date around innovations in technology and award-winning digital services providing global access to the League.

We are seeking a Sustainability Director to:

  • Develop a flagship sustainability strategy programme, in alignment with business vision

  • Create a platform for thought-leadership in sustainability, leveraging innovative approaches to digital technology

  • Oversee relationships with external investors & fund managers

  • Curate commercial partnerships with internal & external clients, leveraging sustainability and aligning with SailGP's ambitions e.g. World Sailing, UNFCCC Sport for Climate Action, One Carbon World

  • Ensure all aspects of sustainability are embedded in SailGP operations

  • Develop, engage and integrate a sustainability proposition within 'hearts and minds' of the entire global workforce

  • Support and provide strategic guidance on new and existing social initiatives

  • Recruit and manage 2 x direct reports to support Commercial Opportunities and Events Management / ISO2012, overseeing the budget for the department

  • Implement an external Sustainability Advisory Board

In this newly-created position, the Sustainability Director will showcase their bias for action, consummate networking and stellar communication skills. Although this role will suit an autonomous self-starter, the Sustainability Director be well-versed in collaborating effectively as part of an agile and fast-moving team, with a passion or deep interest in the sport being ideal.

You'll need to have:

  • Relevant degree or broad corporate experience in sustainability, incorporating development and implementation of an externally recognised, impactful, global sustainability strategy

  • Experience of developing sustainability initiatives linked to technological and digital innovations

  • Proven and determined, results-driven project management; able to lead and execute effectively with a proven capacity to translate information and big ideas into action

  • Excellent negotiation skills with experience in on-boarding new partners, clients or stakeholders

  • Exceptional influencing, listening and communications skills, with a proven ability to influence multiple stakeholders in a global arena

  • Leadership experience, whether direct line management or leading on matrix-managed projects

In return, the Sustainability Director will be rewarded with a modern and agile working environment founded on long-term, systems-changing sustainability impacts whilst delivering quality and making an impact together as 'one team' to change the face of Sport.
