You're working in sustainability as you want to make a difference. You have a desire to create meaningful change - but is your business supporting you to accomplish that?

This business, a national house-building organisation, know that their future must be a sustainable one. The board are ready for innovation to take place and are looking for someone like you to be their pioneer.

Day to day, you'll be putting your experience and expertise setting realistic and meaningful sustainability objectives into practice. You'll make sure that you're not only setting, but meeting crucial climate change mitigation targets, whilst looking at all areas of sustainability including adaptation, energy, waste and social value.

You'll be;

  • A confident and experienced influencer - You'll lead on all sustainability projects, responsible for embedding continuous improvement into the company strategy and engaging with the board.

  • Organised and happy to be hands on with the day to day of the role - You'll be coordinating data for monthly reporting, managing external certifications, and supporting the supply chain team with supplier auditing.

  • Commercially aware - You will be supporting the production of bids for new land and projects, making sure that you're positioning the business in line with local partners and their sustainability objectives.

  • An innovator - You will be working in uncharted territory here. Sustainability is a new concept to a lot of construction businesses, but the opportunity to be impactful is therefore even more prominent.

In terms of experience;

  • It's important that you have experience setting up a sustainability function, and managing reporting, benchmarking and certification (CDP & TCFD). A degree in a sustainability subject would also be beneficial.

  • Around 5 years of sustainability experience in either a consultancy or an in-house position should give you the skills you need. You'll preferably have experience providing sustainability support in the construction or housing sector, but that's not essential.

  • If you can demonstrate that you're able to build relationships at every level, from building site to boardroom, that will go a long way.

  • Some creativity and evidence of collaboratively solving problems in your current sustainability role is welcome.

  • You can be based almost anywhere in the UK, as long as you're happy to do some travelling across different sites. That will mean some driving, so a license is essential!

In return for your skills and expertise you'll be met with a salary of up to £50,000 dependent on your experience, a car allowance or company car, and a discretionary bonus. You'll also have some peace of mind. This organisation hasn't been affected by recent events and is pushing ahead with its growth and hiring plans.
