The world is facing a global climate crisis and a global biodiversity crisis, to which unsustainable agriculture and associated habitat loss and degradation are huge contributors. Feeding 10 billion people sustainably by 2050, within the planetary boundaries, is the greatest challenge of our lifetime.

Are you a leader in environmental sustainability, with the organisation and drive to re-imagine global agriculture and food systems at the heart of the world's most ambitious food and ingredients business?

With reach in over 60 countries as well as employing 62,500 globally, Olam's scope for impact on our global challenge is huge. Olam is a leading supplier of verified, sustainable and certified products, sourcing directly from around 740,000 farmers and suppliers in sustainability programmes. Olam's digital information systems collect a huge volume of granular environmental data, ranging from smallholders in tropical cotton and cashew landscapes to extensive, high-tech estate crops from Australia (Almonds) to Zambia (Coffee).

Olam's landmark achievements include the world's first large scale Climate Smart Cocoa smallholder programme, the first coffee estates certified to the Alliance for Water Stewardship Standard, the largest RSPO-certified palm estates in Africa, and the creation of At Source: the breakthrough agri-sustainability insights platform.

Through this crucial role in Olam's global CR&S function, you will share your subject matter expertise, drive project developments and act as the function's 'go-to' resource for technical/policy advice and support.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Design, develop, support and drive projects and programmes to conserve biodiversity on-farm (pollination, soil health, wildlife-friendly practices) and off-farm (community and landscape-focused ecosystem protection and restoration), in partnership with each relevant business unit lead

  • Test and guide Olam's approach to biodiversity evaluation, measurement, management, and monitoring, working in close collaboration with the sustainability leadership team and Climate Action delivery team

  • Act as a key point of contact on biodiversity, forests, and ecosystem change policy, mentoring and building internal capacity

  • Evaluate and advise internal teams on the design and technical implementation of sustainability projects to maximise conservation and biodiversity benefits, work with the Footprinting Team to incorporate biodiversity into Natural Capital evaluation

  • Develop and drive practical innovations and approaches to maximise biodiversity impact and valuation with partners and service providers

You will have:

  • Experience developing and managing relevant projects e.g. in biodiversity, ecosystems, agroforestry, forest and soil conservation, sustainable crop production

  • A relevant education with related professional skills and a technical qualification in a suitable field
