Land Life Company: Planting trees at scale through innovative technology

Land Life is a technology-driven nature restoration company that plants trees at scale. With a mission to restore the world's 2 billion hectares of degraded land, Land Life applies science, data and technology to every step of the planting process. Land Life's projects revitalize important ecosystems, improve biodiversity and create social and economic benefits for local communities by planting trees where it is needed most; they create impact you can see.

Land Life partners with both landowners in the private and public sector and leading "bluechip" corporates such as (inter)national financial institutions and consumer brands.

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Amsterdam, Land Life is experiencing rapid growth in all its regions. The team is currently made up of over 70 professionals in the Netherlands, Spain, Australia and the United States. To further assist the growth of the organization, both in size and impact, Land Life is looking to hire a COO to be located in their headquarters in Amsterdam.

  • Shape the strategic direction of the company: Translating the company's ambitions to a strategy on how and where to organize our plantings. Take a leading role in setting a strategic outlook and roadmap for the next 5 years.

  • Manage and develop delivery teams: serve as a coach and leader for people on the team.

  • Implementation of reforestation projects globally: ensure reforestation projects are planned and executed at high quality, in a safe manner, within budget and in line with the company mission.

  • Oversee supply chain and procurement activities: Direct responsibility over a budget of 10M + EUR indirect planting costs, as well as 2M EUR+ in team and overhead costs. Be the signatory and end responsible on large contracts and assess any deviations in land and supplier contracts.

  • Registration of projects in line with international certification standards: lead the team responsible for product management. The current focus is on carbon markets (incl. registration of projects under Verified Carbon Standards), but future products may include biodiversity and potentially others.

The ideal candidate brings:

  • A strong track record in strategic operations management as an operations director or a COO.

  • Experience in a scale-up or start-up, ideally combined with some time in a larger, fully professionalized corporate.
