The role: Civil Structural Engineering Manager
As a Civil Structural Engineering Manager, you'll have a highly visible role within the business leading the Civil Structural Engineering and Civil Drafting services for this company's global market. This involves managing a centralized team as well as functional oversight for engineers and drafters focused on specific markets as part of a matrix organization. You will be responsible for owning parts of the workflows in the Pre-Sales, Contract Prep and Post-Contract processes, focusing on detailed design work required to generate Issued For Construction deliverables.
In this role, you will:
Manage a team of Civil Structural Engineers responsible for:
Preparing final structural design and associated drawings and calculations packages
Developing the Project BOM and managing BOM changes over the construction phase
Serving as customer's primary technical point-of-contact for RFIs post-contract
Manage a team of Civil Drafters responsible for:
Preparing the preliminary site layouts and associated tracker product counts
Preparing project drawings, dimensioned details, and exhibits
Providing reports based on analysis of site topography
Develop expert-level technical knowledge of the company's product offering and their corresponding applications in the civil structural engineering field
Participate in standards organization to drive industry-level change on the civil engineering and structural code sectors
Own and advance structural engineering concepts and methodologies, working within the other engineering disciplines and thought leaders to ensure aggressive, defendable, and optimized designs are our first and last offer to our customer
Manage relationships with Professional Engineering firms in regions where the company operates
Collaborate closely with the Applications Engineering Manager and Foundation/Geotech Engineering Manager to ensure the company's full scope of technical services leads the market
Work with a geographically dispersed team to achieve industry-leading engineering services
Build strong technical relationships with customer engineering leadership
Review, edit and approve technical project requirements in RFPs related to structural engineering and code compliance
Be expected to travel primarily within the US, up to 10%. Infrequent international travel may be required.
The qualifications needed:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural concentration
7+ years of experience in an engineering role
5+ years of experience in steel design for industrial or utility applications
The qualifications preferred:
Master's Structural Engineering degree
Experience in renewable energy preferred
Experience managing a team of engineers, preference for managing a remote team
Recognition as an industry thought leader
Ability to work across multiple organizations in a fast-paced, smaller company environment
