Purpose

BT is building and leading the UK digital skills movement with one simple ambition: to use the power of communications to make a better world, for their customers, for their communities, and for society.

Opportunity

BT's ambition is to create a team to help continue to define, design and deliver their most ambitious, future-looking strategy to date - to provide digital skills, support and empowerment to individuals, led by the Digital Impact and Sustainability (DI&S) team.

Acre is proud to be working with BT to identify individuals to join the business across a range of roles; from digital literacy and the role of AI, through to human rights and climate change, all with the purpose to build more inclusive societies; created from a modern blend of skillsets required where performance and purpose intersect.

Reporting to the Director of Digital Impact and Sustainability, BT Group, Andy Wales, this role has overall accountability for leading and delivering BT's climate and sustainability leadership agenda.

BT has set an ambitious 2030 net-zero target for its own operations (2040 for customers and suppliers), is an active campaigner on climate change, is building a leading circular economy approach, is at the core of leading the UK's van fleet electrification transformation and is leading the debate on how technology can help accelerate the journey to a net-zero carbon and circular world for their customers and beyond. This involves overseeing and driving strategies and external engagement across climate change (scopes 1-3+ tech-led customer emissions abatement), circular economy, biodiversity, environmental reporting and KPIs, and extensive internal and external senior engagement as a key senior player in the technology and telecoms sustainability movement.

Accountability

  • Set strategic direction to the senior leadership team, including challenges about the pace of change

  • Drive full integration into the core BT strategy and KPIs

  • Partner with the DI&S business unit Directors as well as the leaders of key functions across the business units such as marketing, customer propositions, finance, procurement, network operations, fleet management, facilities, HR and regulatory

  • Responsible for ensuring BT delivers against the groupwide scorecard carbon KPI and iterate this KPI over time

  • Oversee the delivery of our stretching net zero and circular economy plans against tight timelines, including public policy changes; supplier, partner and customer engagement; carbon offset strategy and purchases, advise on renewable energy procurement; circular economy supplier engagement; campaign, coalition and movement building

  • Regularly engage with the BT Group DI&S board committee, presenting strategy and performance. Present at ExCo. Represent BT Group externally including at Ministerial level overseeing major external strategic partnerships at the CEO level.

  • Engages across the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), procurement, digital, brand etc, to ensure the consistent support for the sustainability strategy

  • Lead critical ESG investor engagement across the range of sustainability issues. Be or become a known expert and go to thought leader on the 'E' part in the European tech and telco investor universe
