Hancock Natural Resource Group (HNRG) creates value through the sustainable management of natural resource investments. Traditional HNRG timberland and agriculture investments have always emphasized good stewardship of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors as important contributors to achieving long-term market rates of return. HNRG is a Manulife Investment Management Company. They manage their assets as good stewards of the land, the environment, and the community on behalf of their investors.

The Director, Impact Investing & Natural Climate Solutions will enhance HNRG's Sustainability and Responsible Investing (SRI) capabilities. This is a newly created role that reports directly to the Chief Sustainability Officer.

You Will Have:

  • Experience engaging and the ability to credibly interact with investment and property management professionals, global institutional investors, and Fortune 500 companies on the opportunities and risks of climate change.

  • Demonstrated leadership in impact investment sustainable investing, ESG investing, real assets (especially timberland and/or farmland), carbon markets, or conservation finance.

  • Thorough knowledge and proven track record within carbon markets, nature-based solutions, natural capital and climate change.

  • Proven ability to work within a matrix organization and influence across a broad range of internal stakeholders.

As the impacts of climate change become clearer and the need for mitigation and adaptation from natural climate solutions become more pronounced, HNRG is determined to offer its clients opportunities to invest in forests and farms that prioritize environmental and social impact equal to or above financial returns.

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Collaborating, building out, enhancing and executing a business plan for impact-first investments (including developing the climate/carbon investment thesis and value proposition)

  • Lead the impact-first product development including identifying and assessing the investment strategy, product development and supporting negotiations with the investment teams

  • Build capacity for HNRG to inform current and future climate and impact-first strategies and mechanisms for market-based, nature climate solutions

  • Work across the organisation and internal teams to develop a value proposition for Institutional Investors seeking to invest in carbon

The position is targeted to be located at HNRG's headquarters in Boston, MA; however, flexibility may be granted to work elsewhere in the United States, either remotely or from another established HNRG office. HNRG offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, a team-oriented work environment and growth opportunities for its employees.
