One of the world's largest banks is looking for a Director of Carbon Origination and Trading. This is a new team which will be building a portfolio of high-quality projects initially focussing on voluntary carbon markets, as well as setting the foundations for how such a portfolio is managed, including pricing and risk management. You will report in to the Global Head of Carbon Portfolio and Solutions.

You will be responsible for:

  • Originating and managing a high quality and well-diversified pipeline of carbon credits on the voluntary market, with involvement in different stages of distribution

  • Setting up the standards for the internal due diligence process and assessing new projects within the context of rapidly changing market conditions and regulations, working with Group Sustainability and others

  • Managing the book of offsets within the context of a financial institution, this includes maintaining risk positions and managing risk limits, providing pricing to clients

  • Actively drive the OTC product development working with stakeholders and support functions to set up front to back processes, trading systems, e-offering, documentation, etc.

  • Staying abreast of carbon market developments and responding to needs and trends with product innovation and market analysis/ commentary

  • Working effectively with ESG teams, institutional and corporate salesforce and other internal key stakeholders will be important to ensure carbon credit supply meets customer needs

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in carbon markets with a good understanding across the voluntary and compliance markets, including main trends, risks, and opportunities

  • Understanding of voluntary standards such as VCS, Gold Standard and associated methodologies across a range of project types

  • Experience in sourcing voluntary carbon credits in a number of sectors, including undertaking due diligence and structuring emission reduction purchase agreements

  • Demonstrated a global network of relationships with key stakeholders across the carbon markets (project developers, brokers, inventory holders, exchanges etc.)

  • An understanding of the VCM risks and risk management techniques

  • Trading experience on carbon or commodities will be a plus
