Do you think we can do better for the environment we play and train in?

At adidas, the answer to this question is always yes because for them, environmental sustainability is one of the greatest expressions of their purpose: "Through sport, we have the power to change lives." After all, if we don’t protect the ground we’re on, how can we play sport?

adidas is constantly upping its game when it comes to sustainability. Where some may feel defeated by the significant environmental challenges ahead, adidas sees an opportunity to win together; a mindset that is central to their 5-year growth and investment strategy, Own the Game.

Environmental sustainability is integral to Own the Game, but adidas can't meet its ambitious 2025 targets alone. The challenges faced are too complex and far bigger than adidas, so they know that a team effort is required across multiple stakeholders, businesses and sectors to leave the planet better than they found it.

Why should this interest you?

If you're passionate about striking a balance between shareholder expectations and the needs and concerns of employees, workers, supply chains and the environment, adidas is right for you. To continue to advance progress towards its environmental targets, adidas is growing their global environmental team.

They're looking for an established global Climate Change, Carbon and Energy leader to join this function as a Director of Environment - Carbon Management in Hong Kong.

That's where you come in…

The global environmental team at adidas currently drives work across 5 strategic priorities on a 5-year strategic cycle (with targets published both internally and externally) and a ten-year strategic plan linked to adidas UNFCCC -30% carbon reduction target. Reporting into the Senior Director of Global Environment, you'll be an astute carbon champion with an exceptional ability to collaborate across a wide range of stakeholders to creatively and strategically address clean energy opportunities that improve outcomes for adidas supplier partners.

You'll also need to be a technical expert in your space, knowing exactly how local legislation, best practice, guidelines and industry standards will impact your networks. With that, you'll share your technical knowledge in order to support effective risk management. While you may not have any hands-on contact with suppliers, you'll understand the complexities of operating across different businesses, geographies and cultures in order to adapt your approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the development and execution of a clean energy strategy across adidas manufacturing supply chain

  • Playing a key role in accelerating adidas carbon program by advising suppliers on renewable/clean energy adaptation and action planning, carbon impact assessments and management, as well as carbon strategies

  • Collaborating strategically with internal leaders within sourcing and across other functions to ensure alignment on strategic priorities

  • Engaging and forming partnerships with external stakeholders to help remove barriers to improvement and accelerate renewable energy adoption within the adidas supply chain

  • Leveraging your extensive carbon/renewable energy expertise and industry experience to identify high value opportunities for adidas and its supply partners to drive improvements

  • Analysing environmental indicators to track performance of suppliers and provide business partners with a clear summary on supplier performance

  • Ensuring fulfilment from facilities on all of adidas environmental carbon programs, requirements and targets

  • Engaging and forming partnerships with external stakeholders to help remove barriers to improvement and to accelerate renewable energy adoption within adidas supply chain

  • Building relationships and collaborating effectively with key internal stakeholders, including the Global Environmental Team, sourcing division, global operations, as well as external stakeholders such as NGOs, government bodies, professional institutions and more

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Proven track record leading diverse teams within a large organisation, influencing and inspiring others to take ownership of key sustainability initiatives with confidence

  • Strong business acumen with an ability to keep an accurate pulse on challenges and opportunities in your business area

  • Superior quantitative and analytical problem-solving skills with a natural curiosity and an ability to navigate complexity, uncertainty and ambiguity with ease

  • Ability to develop business cases effectively, including financial implications for environmental investments

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey complex information in a way that is simple and easy to understand across diverse stakeholder groups

  • Demonstrable experience interacting with stakeholders of all levels, flexing your approach to partner, influence and share knowledge across relevant networks

  • Strong written and verbal English, any other regional (Asia Pacific) language is a plus

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint programmes
