Our client is Ara Partners, led by Charles Cherington and Troy Thacker. Ara Partners was founded in 2017 as a global private equity firm specializing in industrial decarbonization. Ara targets attractive risk-adjusted returns by investing in buyout and growth assets with significant GHG emissions reduction potential. Ara invests in the industrial and manufacturing, chemicals and materials, energy efficiency and renewable fuels, and food and agriculture sectors.

Ara Partners is decarbonizing the building blocks of the global economy in immediate and tangible ways. The firm seeks to build businesses that are focused on sustainability principles and impact. The firm currently manages over $1.5 billion across two private equity funds.

This is an opportunity to join the team as a dedicated Impact and Sustainability Associate responsible for carbon accounting and value creation through alignment with leading sustainability standards across the investment portfolio. The Impact and Sustainability Associate will report to the Director of Impact and Sustainability and will be responsible for providing support to senior members of the operations and investment teams.

Locations: Boston, Massachusetts, Houston, Texas, or remote (located in the US, aligned with the EST and CT time zones)

Some selected key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the successful and timely implementation of Ara's impact strategy

  • Providing technical guidance on corporate carbon accounting and development of GHG emissions reduction strategies

  • Portfolio company ESG data collection management and analysis of impact trends to meet ESG reporting and communication needs

  • Providing analytical support and development of regular Impact Reports and disclosures

  • Managing reporting platforms and ESG tools

  • Advancing the internal Impact Framework and developing executive communication materials, impactful presentations, and ESG-focused materials

  • Supporting quarterly and annual investor reporting

Some key qualifications we'd like to see:

  • 2-5 years of total work experience in sustainability and professional experience in carbon accounting in accordance with leading methodologies such as the GHG Protocol

  • Prior experience in sustainable finance at an investment firm (an investment manager, investment bank, consultancy) preferred

  • Prior work experience with leading ESG frameworks and standards (SASB, Science-Based Targets)

  • Interest in making an impact and proven track record of designing sustainability strategies, GHG emissions reduction modelling and target-setting, and developing ESG operating models

  • Undergraduate degree with exemplary academic credentials

  • Strong data analysis, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint skills

  • Strong project and time management skills

  • Ability to work with limited supervision

  • Professional certifications in carbon accounting, SASB, and other ESG standards preferred
