This thought leader is defining and shaping the future of energy on a global platform, broadening the discussion and education around public policy, renewables, climate change, and much more. Providing financial, technical, operational and commercial expertise, this firm has been investing in renewables for the past 10 years and is currently invested in numerous wind and solar projects around the world, including owning the largest electric vehicle charging company in North America.

The ESG Lead will be joining the team in Houston, TX to support the successful development, execution and evolution of this ESG vision, strategy and implementation. This key hire will be integrating ESG policies and goals in the investment lifecycle and Portfolio Companies (PCs) management practices. Reporting to the Head of ESG, you will play a key role in leading the impact through strategy development, assessing both risks and opportunities under several ESG topics.

Key Responsibilities

ESG Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation

  • Establish ESG best practices, including analysis, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of ESG criteria performance across portfolios; aligning procedures with global standards, such as GRI, CDP, SASB, and/or TFCD.

  • Compile and maintain comprehensive databases of ESG topics and trends to support integration and investment life-cycle evaluation approaches of such ESG factors, specifically in Energy.

ESG Implementation and Integration:

  • Create resources and tools to support the effective implementation of ESG factors in PCs, as well as support monitoring and progress reporting.

  • Coordinate ESG work-streams across the Firm, collaborating with PCs, NGOs and vendors to ensure consistency, integration and timely outcomes.

Research and Engagement:

  • Monitor and benchmark ESG reporting trends and changes to reporting standards, providing insights and recommendations on advancing internal and external reporting practices.

  • Support stakeholder engagement with research and quantitative analysis on ESG themes, producing presentations, contributing to the development and execution of stewardship processes, data analytics, and reporting.

  • Stay informed of ESG regulatory developments, competitor positioning and institutional investor needs, communicating implications to the firm’s ESG analysis and integration and collaborating to develop the necessary supportive resources.

Climate Risk and Opportunity Analysis:

  • Continuously calculate and analyze portfolio full spectrum of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions utilizing primary and secondary data and carbon accounting methods compliant with the GHG Protocol.

  • Assess climate change risks and opportunities for best implementation practice, across the Energy Industry.

  • Support the development and evaluation of energy transition and low carbon pathways, creating strategies and roadmaps.

Experience Sought

  • Relevant bachelor's degree in business, sustainability, or environmental sciences, with a demonstrated interest/experience in ESG issues and themes (e.g. energy, climate change) is required.

  • Diverse experience across sustainability risks & opportunities and best practice implementation across the Energy Industry and Climate Change.

  • Experience in developing ESG and sustainability related methodologies, such as materiality assessment; performance indicators, monitoring and reporting; climate change vulnerability and impact assessment.

  • Strategic and critical thinker, with strong verbal and written communication skills in a client facing environment.

  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data analytics and visualization software such as Spotfire, Microsoft BI, Tableau, Qlik, and LCA software such as SimaPro.

  • Self-starter with strong analytical, organizational, writing, and project management skills.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience working in related or relevant field is preferred.
