A prominent and highly respected private markets investment firm in the Asia Pacific region has retained Acre to help appoint an Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Lead to be based out of the Hong Kong office.

Building on the firm's existing ESG commitment, the ESG Lead will create a comprehensive business plan for ESG and embed it into the firm's culture, investment platform and operations.

This position will drive value creation through high impact ESG initiatives across investment strategies whilst working in partnership with senior leadership and investment teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a private markets investment firm with ambitious growth plans to increase the size of funds across a variety of asset classes such as personal credit, private equity and real assets.

Responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with professionals across each investment strategy and asset class to build and execute programs aligned with the firm wide ESG integration approach on transactions and on engaging with management teams on ESG matters

  • Building strong working relationships across the firm with investment, client-facing, product and senior management, to support strategy implementation and communication

  • Further integrate ESG materiality into the thinking and processes through the investment lifecycle; initial screening of potential investments, ongoing investment and through to exit

  • Drive initiatives to engage with portfolio companies to provide guidance and advice, leading stakeholders to achieve ESG risk reduction and opportunity

  • Engaging directly with clients and working closely with client-facing teams to raise the profile and understanding of the firm's ESG strategy and capabilities

  • The development and implementation of a TCFD-aligned climate change strategy across the Asia Pacific region

  • Actively engage with regulators and key ESG industry experts and comply with relevant regulations and industry best practices to develop and align the firm's ESG policies and procedures

  • Enhance and develop a consistent and scalable approach to ESG data collection, validation and reporting

  • Manage external ESG and sustainability consultants as required

Competencies and experience sought:

  • Experience in ESG-related business practices and how environmental, social and governance concerns relate to material business risks and opportunities

  • Track record of driving results/impact across an organization

  • Outstanding communicator

  • Strategic thinker with an ability to work independently and proactively; keen eye for detail as well as the ability to focus and drive towards the bigger picture

  • Sharp presentation skills, meeting facilitation, negotiation, interpersonal, decision making, consensus building and collaboration ease

  • General knowledge of the finance sector levers for change as they relate to sustainability initiatives

  • Knowledge of sustainability in an investment context within the financial services industry is beneficial, especially any experience of ESG in private equity, private credit or real assets

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required. MBA or other advanced degree in finance, economics or environmental management strongly preferred
