Acre is partnering with the senior leadership of the Scottish National Investment Bank - one of the most active investors of scale-up and green capital in Scotland today - to identify their new Executive Director of Impact Assessment & Reporting. This role will provide senior leadership to spearhead the Bank's impact investment activities, helping support investment activities and the measurement and articulation of the Bank's impact.

The Bank's role is to act as a catalyst for private capital, encouraging investment in exciting businesses and projects that might be challenging to achieve without its support. A cornerstone investor, crowding in private sector investment alongside its public capital to support the development of a fairer, more sustainable and innovative Scotland.

The Role

The role holder will build out and amplify the Bank's Investment Impact Assessment & Reporting function as well as related activities in the following areas:

  • Leading and overseeing the evolution of the Bank's impact management and assessment, and reporting processes.

  • Supporting origination teams and portfolio companies in enabling impact that inspires and generates broader adoption and transformation in the Scottish economy.

  • Oversight and leadership of much of the Bank's climate work (including TCFD and other climate reporting), the ESG performance of portfolio companies, as well as delivery of Fairwork and Diversity and Inclusivity agendas (as they relate to investments).

  • Provide leadership in communicating an accurate narrative of impact, using portfolio data and best-in-class measurement approaches, to demonstrate and communicate the Banks impact story to stakeholders and the wider market and ecosystem.

  • Help shape impact investment strategies of new investment products the Bank develops in the coming years and support third-party capital fundraising processes as required.

In a key relationship role, the role holder will utilise their experience and gravitas to form strong working relationships across the whole of the Bank, with the Bank's Board, with the Bank's investment clients, its Shareholder (the Scottish Government), as well as other key stakeholders and potential future investors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and enabling a high-performing team of impact professionals.

  • Building out and amplifying the Bank's Investment Impact Assessment & Reporting function.

  • Guiding the impact team in their work with the Bank's investment origination team to assess potential investment opportunities at the point of origination.

  • Following an investment closing, work with and guide the impact team and portfolio management colleagues to manage the monitoring and gathering of mission impacts from investments and implement corrective measures when necessary.

  • Guiding and leading on impact-related partnerships with external stakeholders

  • Represent the Bank at conferences, industry committees, and stakeholder & investor meetings

Key requirements:

  • Significant experience in relevant sustainability/ Impact leadership roles within one or more of the financial, corporate or consulting sectors.

  • Demonstrated senior excellence and repeated successes in the following areas:

    • Experience and deep understanding of developing and embedding impact measurement and management approaches and methodologies (covering environmental and societal impacts of investments).

    • Understanding of institutional investors' impact investment expectations and management thereof, as well as relevant regulatory requirements, e.g., SFDR and industry accreditations., e.g. OPIM.

    • An understanding of the private equity, infra and credit investment process spanning origination, acquisition, value creation, monitoring, reporting and exit

    • Ability to represent institutional vision and strategy, as well as impact measurement approaches and results, externally in key forums and with potential Bank investors

  • Superb relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders at various levels and professionalism.
