Acre is excited to be partnered a well-established British construction business to identify a newly created Group Head of Sustainability. In this position, the Group Head of Sustainability will lead on the development and implementation of a new, all-encompassing sustainability strategy to enhance business performance and create a strong social purpose.

The Group Head of Sustainability will work closely with the Board, ExCo, Operations Directors and individual Heads of Department to help create a culture of empowerment, where employees strive to take ownership of sustainability issues and tasks to successfully accomplish collective goals.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead on the development, implementation and delivery of the Group sustainability strategy

  • Work closely with the individual departments and business units to collate information and data in order to report back to the Board

  • Collaborate with the Head of Procurement in regard to energy management, responsible sourcing of materials and the sustainable supply chain agenda, in line with Group strategy

  • Spearhead the carbon emissions reduction programme

  • Create project road maps to ensure continual improvement of sustainability performance reporting

  • Ensure a best in class sustainability training programme is available across all levels of the business, at both project and leadership level

  • Drive the Group's improvements across the 'People' and 'Community' pillars of sustainability, including community support at project level ensuring engagement with schools, colleges and universities

  • Build positive relationships with government and industry networks and represent the Group in sustainability matters at external forums and events

  • Lead on CSR reporting to improve the transparency of the organisation's activities, including measuring the impact on the environment, on society and on the economy

Person Requirements:

  • Extensive leadership experience with the ability to plan outcomes for success within a 3-5 year timeline

  • Experience of leading on the creation and implementation of a bespoke sustainability strategy

  • Relevant technical knowledge gained through substantial and sustained sustainability experience in a large organisation

  • Skilled at translating data and trends into recommendations and solutions through business cases and Board reports

  • Communicates ideas with confidence; asserting own ideas and inspiring others to take action using creative and innovative approaches

  • Self-aware; takes personal accountability for delivery and acts as a cultural ambassador and champion

  • Problem solver; confidently identifies and articulates problems, presenting effective solutions and setting clear expectations and defined outcomes for self and others

  • Degree or relevant qualification in an environmental or sustainability-related discipline
