Acre is delighted to be supporting Drax in their search for a Head of Biomass Sustainability Compliance for a fixed term contract of 12 months. This pivotal role ensures that all biomass used at Drax complies with regulations for biomass sustainability and the Drax sustainability policy to ensure that the company remains at the forefront of sustainable energy.

Central to the business's sustainability objectives, Will Gardiner the Group CEO has announced; "Our intention is to become the world's first carbon negative company by 2030 by scaling up our pioneering biomass with CCS (BECCS) pilot project. This ambition will only be realised if the biomass we use makes a positive contribution to our climate, the environment and the communities in which we operate."

The Head of Biomass Sustainability Compliance operates across several key teams within the business and contributes to external networks and industry forums, acting as an ambassador for biomass sustainability. In this role you will have the opportunity to influence evolving global policy and drive continuous improvement and stewardship of biomass sustainability in partnership with a variety of stakeholders. Consequently, a collaborative and entrepreneurial style and will be valuable in driving your success in the role.

  • You'll have a strong understanding of Supply Chain sustainability and EU legislation. Experience of forestry sustainability would be highly beneficial however an agricultural, food or alternative fuels background would also be valuable.

  • You will be comfortable managing a team and confident liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • You will work closely with stakeholders and be able to interpret technical information to lead on discussions both internally and externally.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Policy: Working collaboratively with the Public Affairs function and other team, to bring a sustainability perspective to policy making.

  • Leadership: Lead internal collaboration with the business as well as communicating key information to internal committees related to biomass.

  • Sustainable Supply Chains: Managing a 'beyond certification' programme with suppliers that defines due diligence and supplier relationships to ensure best practice in sustainability, ensuring Drax's sourcing principles and high standards on sustainability are upheld.

  • External Engagement: Playing an active role in external industry working groups and playing a co-ordination role among sustainability colleagues to ensure a robust position on sustainable biomass.
