Acre is partnering on a retained basis to appoint a newly created Head of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) for an international mid-market private equity firm, with a strong heritage of working with entrepreneurial founders and owner-managers.

Our client invests across a variety of industry sectors and geographies. Investors in the funds include international top tier institutions, many of which place great importance on the development of ESG initiatives.

Working closely with the investment teams and portfolio companies, to affect change and influence a growing integrated approach to sustainability, responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and enhancing the existing ESG strategy 

  • Improving existing ESG policies, data collection, reporting processes and frameworks

  • Assessing and managing ESG risks and opportunities across the investment process lifecycle; from pre-investment due diligence through to ownership and exit of portfolio companies

  • Identifying new opportunities and initiatives for managing emerging risks, to aid the management and create further value at fund and company level

  • Supporting portfolio companies to advance their sustainability strategies, including the provision of technical guidance and support to management teams, through coaching and sharing of best practice

  • Providing ESG performance insights to investor relations colleagues and responsibility for sustainability reporting

Competencies and experience sought:

  • Strong communication and relationship building skills

  • Experience of ESG strategy development and implementation, with experience gained in either the ESG/sustainability consulting sector, or at a corporate, operating in a range of industry sectors

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to highlight trends and communicate important messages

  • The ability to think in a commercial, creative and pragmatic way
