The world's oceans have been overfished for decades. Leading the fight against this is the Marine Stewardship Council. Working collaboratively with NGOs, scientists and businesses, the MSC has developed the international standard for sustainable fishing, to ensure that our oceans and fisheries are protected around the world.

As part of the MSC's growth, Acre is appointing the organisation's Head of Supply Chain Standards Operations. This role takes responsibility for the MSC's Chain of Custody program and developing it further, to ensure that it remains relevant and effective in addressing the supply chain issues affecting the industry. In this role, you will be taking charge of an established team of industry experts based across the UK, USA, China and Singapore.

Responsibilities:

  • The Head of Supply Chain Standards Operations will support the Supply Chain Standards Director and work closely with the Head of Supply Chain Standards Development, in matters related to the operation of the MSC's Chain of Custody standards

  • Alongside the Head of Supply Chain Development, ensure the effective day to day operation of the Chain of Custody Standard, leading the team's activities on high profile projects, investigations, issue management and policy development, providing direction and guidance to team members

  • Build strategic relationships and lead communication with CABs on key issues and opportunities

  • Deputy Chair for the Supply Chain Advisory Committee

  • Oversee the Supply Chain Standards audit process, including issues and incident management, variation, and interpretation requests

  • Oversee the implementation of a suite of complimentary assurance tools to support the Chain of Custody Program e.g., program of targeted provenance testing

  • Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of supply chain standards strategy

  • Contribute to organisational risk management and horizon scanning, identifying opportunities for, and threats to, the MSC Chain of Custody program for consideration by the Executive Committee

Your Background:

  • You will have an in-depth understanding of food/consumer goods, and the challenges faced by industries like fish (e.g. palm oil, cocoa, fresh produce)

  • You understand the challenges around chain of custody and audit programmes, and bring new ideas as to how to drive improvements in these areas

  • You're comfortable operating in an NGO or standards setting organisation, and the scrutiny which you will face

  • It would be great if you spoke any foreign languages, to help with the organisation's outreach in other markets

For 20 years, the MSC has been developing solutions to one of the world's greatest challenges. If you would like to join them as they continue this journey, please contact Tom Townsend via tom.townsend@acre.com or apply below.
