Birmingham Airport is the Midlands' gateway to the world, and as the Head of Sustainability, you'll be responsible for driving and developing the sustainability strategy. The overarching vision is to maximise the economic and social benefits which the airport brings to the region, and minimise the impact on neighbours, communities and the global environment including a commitment to become a net zero airport by 2033.

You will be reporting directly to the Chief Finance & Engineering Officer and will be responsible for a growing team of sustainability and environmental professionals. You will focus on building long term relationships and will help articulate Birmingham Airport's sustainability vision. You'll be responsible for the Airport Consultative Committee which represents the interests of local authorities, resident groups, industry bodies and airport users, and plays a vital role as a communication channel between the airport and its many stakeholders.

As the Head of Sustainability, you will also be responsible for:

  • Influencing and leading the wider onsite workforce, customers, and industry bodies to work more sustainably.

  • Developing a proactive, collaborative approach to establish Birmingham Airport as an industry leader in sustainability.

  • Helping the business look at performance across ESG which is inextricably linked to its commercial performance.

  • Producing the annual Sustainability Report, providing an informed overview of the company's performance against its sustainability KPIs, as well as developments on environmental and social programmes.

  • Maintaining a close relationship with local communities and driving key conversations around commitments made.

You will be a proven sustainability leader with extensive knowledge of key environmental and social issues. You will also have:

  • A broad business understanding with which you can influence and engage credibly with the Senior Leadership Team and Board.

  • A track record in setting, developing and delivering sustainability strategy within a corporate environment paired with the communication skills to bring stakeholders on the journey with you.

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders including the public and local communities.

  • Strong leadership skills, a proactive style and motivation to drive positive, collaborative action.

  • Knowledge of issues facing the aviation industry is desirable.
