Are you an environmental sustainability leader in the market for a new role which will drive an embedded net-zero journey for one of the UK's most prestigious partner-led and consumer focused businesses? Would you love to work with incredible breadth across agriculture, fashion, home as well as technology products?

John Lewis Partnership is working with Acre to source a strategic profile in environmental sustainability which will serve to position the company as a leader in sustainability and ethics for high-end retail. Spanning both John Lewis and Waitrose businesses, the exciting scale and scope of this opportunity provides significant potential for impact with an organisation that has executive-level, cross-functional sponsorship for the sustainability agenda.

Under the inspiring leadership of the Director of Sustainability and Ethics , you'll lead a team of 11 subject matter experts in circular economy, climate, waste and environmental management; offering leadership and strategic direction for John Lewis' overarching Environmental Sustainability agenda.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Set the direction for the Partnership's approach to managing and mitigating environmental impact in its own operations, throughout the supply chain and in product life-cycles

  • Identify the environmental issues of priority for the Partnership and the specific targets and priority activities to address these - including emissions, biodiversity, materials, waste and water

  • Ensure environmental progress against targets is managed and reported, building the Partnership's reputation in this space

  • Champion innovation and external collaborations across areas of circular economy, climate and food waste

  • Work closely and collaboratively with other Sustainability & Ethics teams to enable better ways of working, knowledge share and efficiency

You will already be a well-established environmental sustainability professional who has supported your organisation with defining a net-zero pathway and is keen to do this on a much larger scale with an engaged and committed business.

  • Relevant legislation, certification standards and assurance schemes, and how to apply these in a business context

  • Leading successful strategic projects, programmes and multi-stakeholder groups

  • Leading high performing teams of subject matter experts
