Acre is engaged by a leading private equity firm to appoint a Head of Sustainability, a newly created and senior position within the firm, based in either the London or US offices.

With an emphasis on investing in large-cap businesses in developed markets in sectors such as healthcare, financial services, technology, retail and industrial, this is an opportunity to optimise value creation and guide businesses on their transformation journey for success in a sustainable economy.

You will create and implement a new ESG strategy for the firm to maximise commercial advantage in the further integration and formalisation of ESG. Working closely with investment colleagues to guide ESG value creation opportunities during the origination, pre-investment due diligence stages, investment committee meetings through ownership and exit, will be a key part of this leadership function. Responsibility for the firm's positioning on sustainability regulation and policy (SFDR, TCFD etc), inputting to external communication on ESG performance to clients and participating in industry working groups; illustrates the external profile of this position.

When travel is possible, the position will involve travelling to the US and Europe to engage with portfolio companies.

Experience and competencies sought:

  • Leadership, influencing, relationship building and change management skills.

  • Sustainability expertise gained in-house within large multinational firms and/or within a strategy consulting context, along with the ability to apply experience to a private equity business. Understanding or experience of private equity is helpful, but not essential.

  • A commercial and strategic approach in applying sustainability to business, to enable businesses to thrive and take advantage of the risks and opportunities of ESG is a core requirement.

  • Subject areas such as climate change and transition risk are beneficial.
