An innovative infrastructure private equity firm is partnering with Acre to help appoint an Impact & ESG Director, a newly created position to create and implement the next iteration of the firm's sustainability strategy with a priority focus on formalising an approach to climate risk and developing a roadmap to net-zero, plus social factors that support value creation and enhance positive impact. This position reports into a board Executive.

Our client invests in regulated infrastructure assets in the UK such as water and gas utilities, renewable energy generation, waste treatment and new train fleets. Other funds have included Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) such as hospitals, schools and roads in Europe and North America. Investors in the funds are globally based institutional investors.

The successful Impact & ESG Director can be based in London or Edinburgh offices.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Deliver and advance the current ESG strategy, Responsible Investment policy and sustainability programmes

  • Subject matter expert for ESG factors throughout the investment cycle contributing to origination, acquisition due diligence, asset management initiatives and investor queries, presentations and reporting

  • Ensuring compliance with and aiming for outperformance on external reporting standards such as UN PRI, SFDR and TCFD

  • Engaging with clients and investor relations colleagues on ESG performance

  • Attending Investment Committee and ESG Committee meetings

  • Engaging with colleagues to support audit and improve diversity, business conduct and governance at all underlying assets (and supply chain partners) and share best practice

  • Attending and presenting at external events, conferences and producing thought leadership papers on relevant sustainability topics, to promote the firm and its portfolio

Experience and competencies sought

  • Experience of ESG strategy development and implementation, either in a consulting capacity or an in-house position

  • Experience of working with and influencing companies, or infrastructure assets, on improving business performance through enhancing environmental, social and governance factors

  • Using a commercial approach to ESG in order to innovative and have credibility with senior-level stakeholders

  • Communication, relationship-building and change-management skills applied to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Sustainability experience gained in fund management or infrastructure experience is desirable, but not essential
