Acre is partnering exclusively with a world class rail business, as they seek to bring on a Lead Internal Auditor (HSE). The organisation are involved in some of the largest infrastructure projects within the UK and have a successful history in delivering ambitious projects across the country.

Their Internal Audit team is exceptionally experienced, with current employees having worked previously for FTSE 100 companies and the Big 4 consultancy firms. The role has a heavy strategic focus and you will be tasked to analyse key HSE risk areas to the business, ranging from Climate Change, to Wellbeing, to new Safety legislation.

The purpose of this role is to lead and deliver planned internal audit assignments focusing on a wide range of subjects, such as: safety, health, asset management, environment, and significant change programmes.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifying significant risks to business objectives, processes, programmes and projects

  • Assessing the design, effectiveness, and efficiency of internal controls over risks

  • Performing appropriate audit tests over the controls identified for testing

  • Providing senior executive with recommendations to improve the quality of their control environments

  • Ensuring all audit work is fully documented within the Audit Management System in line with IIA Standards and the Internal Audit Methodology

This vacancy will suit somebody who adapts easily to new business surroundings, has excellent wider stakeholder engagement skills, and who is adept at proactively mitigating risk within a business.

You will also be required to have:

  • Experience in leading teams in a global management consultancy/professional services firm, or large matrix organisation, with an internal audit or consulting background

  • An ability to utilise core risk and controls skills in a broad range of projects both in traditional internal audits and advisory projects aimed at assisting in the implementation of controls / improvements

  • An ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic and fast paced work environment, consistently delivering quality work products to agreed deadlines

  • A genuine appreciation of the business benefits of internal controls and robust risk management
