Sail Ventures ("SAIL") is a boutique investment firm based in The Netherlands and focused on delivering sustainable, measurable returns to our investors over the long term.

Established in 2017, SAIL was set up to finance the transition of industries towards a sustainable future and, more specifically, the climate transition which needs to occur in the coming two decades.

SAIL is currently looking for a Data Analyst to join its team with a primary focus on growing SAIL's intelligence and analysis of the countries within the investment universe of SAIL's investment mandate, providing research support to the Country Analysis team and ultimately SAIL's proprietary investment process. The Portfolio Analyst will report to the Head of Portfolio Monitoring and work closely with SAIL's Investment Directors, Impact and E&S Specialists and the wider team, including fund management.

The Portfolio Analyst will also support the Portfolio Monitoring of transactions and times and play a role as the Secretariat to SAIL's Investment Committee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct jurisdictional assessments of the &Green geographies of interest.

  • Monitor major market data relevant to each jurisdiction of interest (including macroeconomic data, supply chains, public policies, governmental and non-governmental stakeholders and developments related to climate change mitigation and adaptation).

  • Risk watch by monitoring news flow on economic and geopolitical developments, especially in relation to investments held.

  • Provide meaningful insights on climate resilience, forest, land use, human rights and other relevant information for each jurisdiction and commodity supply chain to support the Investment Team

  • Prepare a concise presentation on jurisdictions' relevant developments and potential risks for the Investment Committee and Advisory Board of the &Green, as well as other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Act as IC Secretariat, meaning joining all IC meetings and taking minutes appropriately. This would include sitting in on closed-door IC discussions and requires a high level of professionalism.

EXPERIENCE SOUGHT

  • A postgraduate degree in Economics, Data Science, or similar.

  • Demonstrable experience in applied research in econometrics, climate change, public policies, agriculture or similar.

  • Strong analytical capabilities, ability to arrive at well-considered opinions and represent them well to a diversity of audiences.

  • In-depth knowledge of Excel, advanced user of Powerpoint. Programming skills (e.g. Python) and data analysis expertise is a plus.

  • An ability to explain complex issues to non-specialists in a clear manner translating quantitative analysis results into investor presentations

  • Fluency in English is a prerequisite. Knowledge of further global languages (French, Spanish, etc) is beneficial.

  • Experience working on the ground in developing countries is preferred.
