Managing Director, Nature Based Solutions Fund

We are currently supporting a c.£100m fund investing in Nature Based Solutions across the UK in their search for a managing director to lead the existing team of 4 analyst and start deploying capital into projects providing ecosystem services (e.g. benefits from natural services including, for example, flood mitigation and water quality improvements from tree planting or carbon sequestration from restoring peat bogs).

The Managing Director is a key position within the Fund Management organisation. They will be responsible for sourcing, selecting, managing and reporting all the investments made by the Fund, including sourcing a pipeline of potential deals, selecting those for development, and undertaking the due diligence necessary to validate and complete the deals.

Responsibilities:

• Identify the best funding mechanism

• Complete the number of deals required to reach the investment targets of the Fund

• Ensure the success of the deals and projects post-investment

• Ensure there are credible and timely routes to exit for fund investors

• Establish a robust pipeline of deals and projects

• Establish an effective deal selection process

• Establish the range of funding and investment options, ranging from blended equity finance to debt

• Provide management support to asset owners to ensure success post-investment

• Establish a fit-for-purpose reporting process for fund investors.

Requirements:

• Commitment to combatting the global climate crisis

• Fluent knowledge of financial support mechanisms, ranging from investment to loans, and including everything between such as Bonds, ASAs, Debt, etc.

• Fluent knowledge of the financial support institutions, ranging from VCs to Banks, including everything in between such as Angel Syndicates, CVC's, Family Offices, Institutional Investors, etc.

• Experience of managing investment and funding practices

• Knowledge of the current state of climate change measures in relation to land use and management, including the carbon standards and project development, such as the Woodland Code and the Peatland Codes in the UK, the different registries, the debate about land use policy and the dynamics created by carbon pricing on agriculture

• Experience in project finance investments in the UK - such as renewable energy and infrastructure projects

• Knowledge of Defra objectives and the agricultural reform process in the UK

• Knowledge of the grants and public subsidies available in the sector

• Technical knowledge of the issues surrounding ecosystem regeneration
