The holder of this role is responsible for leading allocated parts of my clients' corporate, public policy and market best practice engagement consistent with the Engagement Plan to achieve substantial and demonstrable change on material stewardship, corporate governance, long-term strategy, and environmental and social issues. This is primarily through delivering an engagement strategy at an allocated set of large companies. The role holder will also deliver allocated proxy voting recommendations and manage the development of allocated elements of the global Engagement Plan across agreed countries/region(s), sectors, and ESG-related themes as well as allocated regional proxy voting policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and delivery of engagement strategy across the Global Emerging Markets region as well as globally across a number of relevant environmental, social, and governance themes

  • Lead corporate engagement through the development of regular dialogue and meetings at the Board and Executive Committee level at allocated companies

  • Developing and maintaining a considerable internal and external profile, being responsible for representing the business at conferences and events as well as helping to build best practices in stewardship across the firm.

Experience Sought:

  • Strong knowledge on ESG issues and how they can be managed within a stewardship context.

  • Familiarity with Asian culture(s) and an ability to understand and relate to cultural norms and build relationships with key contacts in different Asian markets

  • Business level competency in relevant languages (Chinese, Japanese, etc…), would be valued, but is not necessarily essential.

The job holder will focus a significant proportion of time on stewardship activities in Asia, covering markets such as China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong hence the capacity to travel regularly to these areas from London is required.
