Our client is a dedicated impact bond asset management company. All their investments support the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the global Paris Agreement on climate change. They are a small-sized company with a global presence in the UK, US and Australia.

Verification is central to their business and the impact bond universe that the Sustainability team must review is growing rapidly. Verification includes assessing the potential environmental and/or social impact of a bond and the overall ESG performance of the issuer. It includes analysing the context and impact footprint and a critical assessment of the disclosure and impact reporting.

The analyst will also play a role in supporting data-driven research and analysis, particularly in the context of climate change and the role of finance in meeting the Paris targets. The analyst will be expected to have a good understanding of carbon accounting and the challenges and opportunities associated with decarbonization and the path toward a net zero economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse impact bond frameworks and issuers against proprietary ESG and impact verification framework

  • Maintain relationships with impact bond issuers

  • Research on emerging sectors/thematic research to support verification

  • Collaborate with impact bond market participants, such as industry working groups

  • Contribute to use of proceeds and impact data collection for my clients' investments

  • Assist in the production of quarterly and annual impact reports

  • Work with our climate data partners to calculate climate profile and impact of our portfolios

  • Stay abreast of market developments in sustainability and impact reporting

  • Maintain data (process, flow, and quality) in internal and external ESG databases

  • Work with large datasets related to investments and funded projects

  • Continue to develop my clients' capabilities in utilising climate-related and ESG data sets

  • Support industry and sector research and analysis, using both quantitative and qualitative methods

Experience sought

  • Excellent low-carbon transition and sustainable development awareness

  • Experience with climate data analysis

  • Confidence in critiquing academic qualitative and quantitative/statistical research methods and results

  • Passion for the Green and SDG/Social/Sustainability agenda and the low carbon & climate resilient future

  • Strong writing skills

  • Teamwork/collaborative working style but also able to carry out individual research work

  • Ability to analyse and improve Verification and Impact processes and operational efficiencies

  • Excel skills: knowledge and ability to perform moderate to advanced data analysis in Excel and manage large datasets
